Anchor Set

Anchor Set (アンカーセット) is a mid-game upstacking technique that can be used to ignore an overhang by making a Tetris near it. Use L or J mino as an "anchor" right beside the overhang.

The advantage of this technique is that it requires no softdrop. While the disadvantage is that a single misdrop, especially around the overhang, might be fatal.

Generic Structure

Whichever way the overhang faces to, either J or L could be used.

It is good to keep in mind that the amount of the blocks over the overhang cannot be more than 4 rows for Anchor Set to be used effectively. Anything more than 4 rows might be hard to clean up and could render a single row (the overhang row) useless for a few bags.

In case of the J piece anchor, the shape above the overhang can vary. Below are some common situations, usually after a T-Spin Triple.

Useful Usages

Anchor Set could be used for things other than Tetris Stacking. There might be more usages than the ones shown below.

• Kaidan: Anchor Set could be used with Kaidan for extra firepower. This one is especially used with the J anchor. (The one shown below is one of the continuations of DT Cannon.)

• Parapet: Anchor set could be used with Parapet for extra firepower. This one is especially used with the L Anchor.

• Forecasting: This technique may be used with forecasting. Below is an example of forecasting a T-Spin Double with this technique. Forecasting a T-Spin Triple or DT Cannon is also possible.

• 3-6 stacking: Anchor set could be used to convert an overhang into a 3-6 stacking. Either L or J could be used. The example below is adapted from a player's play.

• 2-7 stacking: This technique can also be used to convert such overhangs to 2-7 stacking.
