How wonderful it is a nostalgic topic for me. I wonder if jujube is doing fine.

What's This?
テトリスフレンズ段位戦, which means "Tetris Friends Ranked Match Tournament" in English, is an active tournament hosted by a couple of volunteer Japanese tetris players. It was started as early as 2012 and now has more than 100 participants. In this thread, I will make a concise introduction to テトリスフレンズ段位戦 based on the official website of the tournament, live streams I have watched, and information that is gathered from tournament hosts and participants. Note that this thread was written on 2014/03/09, and some of the following content could be outdated in the future.

I just got a 3ds, and I currently have only Tetris DS. I was wondering what Tetris game has the most online activity? I mostly just play online. I heard that Tetris Axis for the 3DS doesn't have a lot of online players. Should I buy Tetris Party? Or just keep playing Tetris DS.

Holdless play is quite possible, especially with a forgiving randomizer like guideline games have. Getting only Tetrises is harder though, and with the length of a Marathon game you're at the mercy of the random number god. Watch some TGM 2 (TAP) videos for examples of long runs of holdless play

My dedicated team of Tetris analysts want your input: What do you think the Tetris scene needs right now?
More tournaments? New admin? Advertising around? More streams? Better games?
Also, why?

Most importantly, I think the biggest reason why people aren't interested into Tetris as much anymore (at least in this community) is because the game itself is dead. Even if it does change there are only so many aspects of the game you can tweak before we all realize where we actually stand in skill level.
