[div align=\\\"center\\\"]The Goal

By December 6, 2011 at 6:30 PM PST I will complete a game of 40 Lines while going 300 tpm or higher.

Why?

It has always seemed completely insane that someone would ever reach 300 TPM. Even the fastest records barely get past 250! There is one thing that people have not taken advantage of yet, and that is KeyBlox. KeyBlox is a game where every possible piece orientation and horizontal position on the field is mapped out on the control settings. Even if I don't reach my goal I expect to beat the current world record of 23.04 seconds. That would be enough of an achievement for me, but I am aiming high!

I hope to get support from everyone to help me push tetris to its limit!

My motto? Just Believe.

My Progress

I actually started seriously playing KeyBlox on November 17th of this year with a whopping 300+ second 40L. I will update my progress on this post. [/div]

You can do it!!!! I'd love to see a 5TPS sub 20 second record!

One minor thing: I strongly believe that any world record performed using deep drop should be rejected. Unlike 180 rotation and instant DAS, features like deep drop and cascade mode actually break the rules of naive gravity.

It's similar to why we shouldn't allow piece reflection (it breaks the rule that tetrominoes must be one-sided).

And really, a sub-minute player shouldn't need deep drop anyway (what ever happened to the art of the platform clear?).

Thats true, and normally you wouldn't soft drop in 40L anyway (situation where you would need deep drop). That is making me take a few steps backwards in terms of my speed but I don't want to have unfair advantages (see first one year challenge)

I tried right now and managed 40.8 -> 37 seconds. I should be able to get use to it pretty quickly

Theres a very simple way to go sub20, with bag and deepdrop.

QuoteLike many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

bach_of_tetris

keyblox is the future of tetris, but its going to be a looong time before it becomes multiplayer... but I guess your giving yourself a good headstart in front of everyone else.

if im not mistaken, one of your videos does use deep drop

oceanhighway

so you started playing a month ago and are already 35 seconds?  that's really impressive.

XaeL

u just stack in the "playing forever" method but because of deepdrop your OJL are all gonna be in same column, and SZ in same column, use Hold and T together, so T's are easy.

oh I know how to do that, I'll try it sometime

Thank you, the hardest part was getting use to the controls. Once I did that I started breaking a lot of records. To speed up the process I blocked out the placement guide at the bottom where it shows a through ;

Update: Just got 35.459 without deep drop. I'm almost use to it.

I think you'll reach it within a year. I think there should be a separate 40L records list for 40L Keyblox because the conventional control scheme IS adaptable over "all games" and gives a good indication of speed on any client, whereas keyblox is a lot more restrictive, and does not reflect your speed in, say, the Big 4.

EDIT: I just tried out keyblox, 40L with 103 pieces in 218.336, 1.34 KPT, 28.30 TPM. I'm so dizzy.

EDIT 2: 188.366 1.27 KPT 101 pieces 32.17 TPM I'm done for today xD

You can do it larry! Just believe!

The keyblox records are listed under typomino on the score board. I still consider it 40L though. It says All Games and it isn't drastically different than other games except for the control scheme. I disabled deep drop a couple records ago so it is a lot more similar now. I have no doubt that I will become much faster on all 40L when I start reaching lower times.

I know it can be done! If I don't make it I'll at least get super close!

New Record! + No Misdrops!

33.348 ! I'm excited because I did not misdrop once in the recording! That's progress.

I wonder how much time I have to shave off on average (daily) to reach my goal

To reach 20 seconds (300ish TPM) in one year, you'll need to knock off about one second every four weeks.

The only thing about Keyblox is the way it gives its keys information about the game in a way that other games can't. In other games, the keys are "blind" as to what column tetrominoes will occupy. You can tell it to go left once, macro left twice, macro left 9G, etc., but the keys only told the game how many moves to make and not what column to go to. In Keyblox, the keys know exactly what column the tetromino will occupy. In other words, it's Tetris devoid of geometric translations and rotations, since a tetromino's orientation and coordinates are rendered upon spawning. This is the biggest Tetris axiom-breaker, next to deep drop. It may work out to be a significant advantage, totally separate from KPT. Maybe not, though. I don't know.
