Also wow, look at the sweet prizes.  I didn't think they would be so generous!

I'm not fond of the timezone idea because it allows for groups with fewer skilled players to have more players with less skill make it to the finals, while groups with more skilled players will be weeding out players who deserve to make it.

Additionally, while scheduling worldwide is a problem, players who can't make scheduled games will be unable to do so early or late in the tournament, so it doesn't help matters to put off any scheduling conflicts until the end.

Finally, while I don't want to discriminate against "foreign" players, since TF is not technically allowing them to participate (and would they give them prizes if they won?), the times should probably be centered around the timezones of TF's "legitimate" userbase.

If I earn a prize I'll give it to the next rank, all except the T-shirt.  I want the t-shirt.

Registration will open sometime between now and Friday.

*EDIT* okay maybe not the next rank, i'll figure out a way to give out the prize if I earn one.

Got an update today.  The gameplay updates are ready, they want a date on official tourney start date and they'll push out the changes a few weeks beforehand.

Can they maybe give us a sneak peek or URL or something to try it out?
Like they used to have the TEST_v3 rooms (or however that went)...
That way we can also "test" it if it's ok before they make it public?

I didn't mean match up opponents by timezone , matchups are still done according to sprint times but I was thinking of having people play all on set times.  So for example:

When signing up there are 3 available time choices to play, and each player must pick 2 of them to play on.
Then we can have set days for matches where we can stream/commentate matches.  3 days a week for the first couple rounds of the tournament, with volunteers I think we can do it.  Players who don't show up on their scheduled time are gone.

Default time slots:

Friday between 5-8 PM PST
Saturday between 5-8 PM PST
Sunday between 5-8 PM PST

Sweet as sounds good to me. And yeah Blink I'm quite sure you WILL get a prize. Sounds awesome really excited.

Now to somehow make TF not lag on my computer.

This is how we'll handle match reports.  Once signups are over I'll replace the signup form with a report match form.  People can use that to report, post in a match result thread, or e-mail me.

Winner's Name:
Loser's name:

Image Link: (use tinyurl or imageshack or something)

I'm looking to open registration sometime tomorrow.  I'm going to add a hit counter to see what type of activity we get on this.

Also, once registration starts if you'd like to help out please support the tournament and build interest for it by changing your TF tags to link to http://www.harddrop.com/tourney  .

The current seeding to me is awful.

Putting the best player against the worst is by no means fun for anyone, and the top seeds will have an easy easy easy time to the final stages of the tournament.

I'd rather see seeds done with a more even spread. For example, a 16 player tournament would be seeded like this:

http://binarybeast.com/xBW10111719

This spreads the various skill levels around and somewhat prevents the higher seeds from getting auto-wins against crappy opponents until later stages.

It also removes the need to redo seeding each round which will remove confusion and help keep pace
