Yeah, rather than go through all the trouble of reseeding after each round.  I'm going to go with the format that I think will work best, the standard single elimination tournament rules that most tournaments use, and make a bracket from it.  Simple, less confusing, easier to follow because we can map out future opponents, and a lot easier to manage.

Sorry myndzi, I really considered your system for a long time and was going to test it out because it hasn't really been tested much but I don't think we should take that chance the first time around.  Outsiders who are unfamiliar with the system will come in very confused.

Some small suggestions:

[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE[/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]1st – iPod Touch, Autographed Alexey Pajitnov Tetris T-Shirt, Tetris Party Deluxe Wii
2nd - Tetris Party Deluxe DS/DSi, Autographed Alexey Pajitnov Tetris T-Shirt
3rd - Autographed Alexey Pajitnov Tetris T-Shirt[/quote]

Can you put "Prizes" before that

[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE[/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]   1. Friday between 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM PST
  2. Saturday between 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM PST
  3. Sunday between 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM PST[/quote]

You can indicate the dates there (Friday December 3, Sat. 4 , Sun. 5) instead of in the preceding paragraph. It help people put a solid date in their heads.

Also if it is possible can you put a clock on that page that is in PST time zone. It will eliminate much confusion.

Oh, I thought he left dates off on purpose so he could re-use players' date selections.

If you add dates, you need to schedule the entire tournament and have them pick days every week.

So much work...

I'd honestly have everything prior to the top 16 done in a single day.

He probably did and I misread it.

So hold on, is the whole tournament Single elimination?

And are you seeding us by 40 line time? Cause then I better work on mine I guess.

I believe playoffs are double elim.
I'm not sure if it will be by any sprint time or your TF time,
reckon it be hard to check on the validity of every sprint time on different games

If we are seeding by TF sprint time, is it beneficial to me to knock a few seconds off mine (so i get an easier matchup?) I'd like to know ASAP as I'm pretty sure I can shave a few seconds off if I try.

Europe is PST +8 or PST +9

This is going to be a late one for me! Think it is possible for me to play my matches at the 5pm side of things rather than the 8pm? or Am I totally at the mercy of my opponent (who could probably win just by waiting till 8pm on Sunday night to play, as I'd have to sleep/be incredibly tired.)

massi4h

Yeah same here, if it's seeded that way I want to make my time better as well before the cutoff.

yeah im pretty sure its seeded so that the fastest plays the slowest, second fastest plays the second slowest, etc.

I guess this is the fairest system for the pros.. and intermediates, but it sucks for the bottom x% of players who will all loose their matches 10-0

I'd just seed the Top 16 players so that they don't meet each other in the first few rounds and make everyone else random.

Obviously this is just discussion, I'm not complaining or anything! So happy that the tournament is going ahead
Although I see that currently:

will be seeded not too far off from me, so maybe I should be thankful
A nice slow player for some top seed to play haha (if he enters + if he doesn't improve on his 14 games of sprint time)

It is no longer seeded this way. From my understanding the skill gap will be spread evenly across the board instead of fastest vs slowest with the only close matches being mid level speeds.

The seeding will look something similar to this

Also, this is a bad thread to have people report games in. A new thread should be made for that with an updated op complete with tournament information, not HD's usual "post games here - the end."

Time slot thing

I've been super busy so I haven't been watching the thread close, but I actually like this idea quite a bit.

Are you planning on using sprint times to match players every round? It sounds like that what you implied, but I feel like that would give the best sprint times a rather unfair advantage in that they'd always get to play the slowest players. The re-ranking by match results was intended to address this.

....lol.

Putting the best player against the worst is by no means fun for anyone, and the top seeds will have an easy easy easy time to the final stages of the tournament.
[/quote]

Yet that is indeed how traditional elimination seeding works. The reason for it is that it provides the highest chance of the best players in the end. If you put all the best players against each other early, then you wind up with a "wider skill range" at the end, which translates to final matchups that are 1) not representative of the best players and 2) not all that challenging, therefore not as interesting to watch or participate in.

Them's the breaks with elim. It also has the property that you can make your path easier by winning a game you aren't favored to win. Finally, please note that seed number doesn't equate directly to vs skill.

No worries man, it's all for the good of Tetris! We'll know after this one if dropouts are within acceptable limits or what.

You know, I was thinking while I was driving, it might be good to have the time slot on one of the weekend days be earlier; we have a good day spread but not so good of a time spread. What do you think?

Will it be possible to maybe play matches outside of the designated times if you can agree on it? Setting the slots to be in the early evening in PST is really unhelpful to anyone who isn't in the USA. (~2am in Europe, and early to mid-morning in Asia)
