Advanced tips for Arena?

Hey Guys!
This is my first post lol.
I'm a 4 combo guy, and that technique has carried me so hard in any tetris related game. But as with many different types of combos, it has its limits(namely you get koed prty easily at least once). In tetris friends arena mode, i'm struggling at rank 20 with my opponents. It's not that they send a huge amount of lines, well they do lol, but that my usual combo techniques fail or can only be used once. I know your standard dst, tsts and the like, I've even tried perfect clearing at beginning to get some cheap wins, but do you guys have any tips for better play at high level? Thanks~

I myself fall around 19/20 area on TF, the best advice I can give is to really work at downstacking the garbage, say you 4w in a 4 player room, and the garbage gets divided by 2 players, and they manage to send it back work on sending that garbage back efficiently and quickly. If you are getting topped about before you can run your build, I would suggest integrating t spins and tetrises in the earlier portion of the game, then possibly go for a large downstack combo, or a 4w midgame (if it allows for it)

^Agreed  Master the beautiful art of the T-Spins :3 And also timing would help you last longer. Say you're at the top of your matrix and you have a tspin or tetris built. You should wait until some lines are sent to you so you can cancel instead of the usual just send it and have some lines hit you and push you back to where you were again. Or, if you know how to send the tspin/tetris and ds down to a safe point. Go ahead c: *noob advice*

4w isn't my favorite strategy, but it's very effective if you want to use it. If you do though, Learn how to middle 4w. If you're getting topped out quickly, it sounds like you may be doing it on the side. Also, start watching your opponent's screens just a bit if you're not already. It will help you be able to know when you should spike, when you should downstack, or if you need to garbage cancel (Like Destiny was saying)

I tried middle 4w, but often get scared of doing it past the first 20 secs lol

I qq the most when i perfect clear and instead of insta ko'ing them, i get sent a double t spin and two-three tetrises in the next 10 sescs lol, (due to the 10ish lines in a column)

Where the garbage lands is based on a change-in-attack rule. Say line clear X sends 4 lines, line clear Y sends 5, and line clear Z sends 2. The 4 lines from line clear X go in a random column together, the 5 from line clear Y go in a random column together, etc.
Note that there's a 10% chance the lines you receive from line clear X and Y end up in the same column.

Tl;dr

T-Spins and Tetrises send straight, clean garbage; comboes send messy garbage.

In e and e+ rooms the garbage hole changes on every attack so if you do a pc sending 10 lines in one go your opponent will get 10 lines of straight garbage. Thats why pc isnt a good opener against good players because they can easily send them all back to you.

Learn tspins and work on your downstacking if you want to get better in arena.

yeah learning all t-spins in all situations, especially t-spin doubles and singles while downstacking efficiently is the only way to go to become a top player.
