Help with N-blox

So right now I'm playing n-blox and I'm trying to get the highest score possible. However I'm used to the new modes where you can hold a key, also on tetris friends your turning doesn't come into play. You can increase the speed by pressing K but its too wonky, peices don't go where i want and such.

Are there any strategies for an amateur to improve marathon scores, specifically for n-blox.

The one I'm talking about is this:

Integration

LOL, what is the highest score possible for N-Blox? I assume the score will overflow after a certain time (that means it goes back to 0 or a negative number). If you waste 10 hours and get that overflow, then you deserve the mad cow badge.

The problem with N-Blox is that it is just unchallenging. Speed/gravity doesn't increase after level 9 and the randomizer is too nice to you (unlikely to get droughts or 3 same pieces in a row). Although speed doesn't increase, you still get more and more points for lineclears. Basically, you can say, if you play double as long, you'll get 4 times as many points. This said, if you are in level 3000 and have done Singles only, you still will have more points than somebody who is in level 1000 and did Tetrises only. The only positive thing about N-Blox is that it doesn't use lockdelay (unlike TF 1989, which is rather Tetris DX than 1989; lockdelay means that you still have 1 second to move or rotate, when the piece touches the ground).

Here still some tips for N-Blox:
  • Know your randomizer: I tried to just drop the first 21 pieces a few times and I always got at least 2 pieces of each kind. N-Blox won't give you droughts (long wait until next line piece appears). So even if you're near the top, just leave your Tetris column open and the line piece will appear.
  • Stay low: When highest level is so unchallenging as in N-Blox, you just have to play safely. If you stack for Tetrises, it means that you have your hole at the left or right side. Your hole should be 4 or 5 rows high and on top of it a small funnel (2 wide), so that you can skim.

Just mass singles. I gave up after level 33 because it didn't get any harder

QuoteLike many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

...

How about a nice game of NES?

Ok, more seriously now. I didn't know about the K switch, but I wouldn't bother with it. You might still get foiled by N-Blox's disgusting movement code though -- for example, rotation cancels movement autorepeat.

Once you get a hang of how awkward the game handles, the strategy really is just "play forever..."

Thanks for the tips everybody, I got a new score of 524336 taking your tips to heart. I tried to downstack and only send tetris'es or triples when possible.
