this guy IS a genius. you may not agree that he is a musical genius, but he is a genius performer. he's able to bring out every single emotion during his concerts and he has made himself a popular figure not because he sings about sex or drugs, he doesn't even use sex appeal to attract an audience, he just lets himself loose and pours his heart into what he does.

i think what's really cool is the fact that no matter how many hot girls he brings with him on stage or how many he appears with in his music videos, you're still focused on him waiting to see what he does next. PSY is awesome.

many things it is, subtle it is not. many things he is, genius he is not.

The video itself is far from subtle, but the satirical element is, hidden behind the unanimous       going on amongst the viewers. And by conventional mainstream standards, yes this song is quite catchy and the MV is actually ranked #1 on the U.S. iTunes MV Charts. And the man who invented this catchy-ness and directed the MV is none other than PSY himself. Hate him or love him, you can't help but acknowledge his self-earned success. In fact, I think the reason he became the first Korean artist to make it this big was because he rejected "standard protocol" consisting of "American-izing" the Korean culture, and instead stuck to his Hallyu roots and woke up the world with something refreshing. Sure, there'd be people like you who feel repelled by this approach, but PSY made a gamble and ultimately he succeeded. At the very least, this fact itself is simply undeniable.
