Hawaii bringing back some Tetris spirit

Hey guys long time no see.  I'm located in Hawaii (obviously) and a good friend and I are thinking of bringing back some competition to the Tetris scene.  Now what I'm looking to gain here by posting is some insight and your thoughts on how we can make this tournament run smoothly and to have the potential of being the prime spot for local Tetris players to meet new friends and to encourage everyone (myself included) to play more and to play at a higher level.

I recall some years back when the Tetris Cup was hosted here in Hawaii.  I came to this community to share some of the happenings of the tourney and to report on what kind of skill level was here.  Myself,  I was terrible (comparatively speaking).  I still think I am terrible, and until a few days ago, my friend (who won the Tetris Cup, I took 3rd) told me he wanted to do this tournament, and I felt like I should have been playing more.  Tetris was one game I could call myself good at (in my eyes) and I recently felt that I shouldn't let that skill just go to waste.  Over the years I've indulged in Initial D Arcade Stage 3 (I was actually good at this game though, at least top 20 in the nation IIRC), Starcraft 2 (mid level platinum Zerg), and Diablo 3 (I'm farming gear to make some real money lol), and aside from Initial D, Tetris was a game that I could play and understand well enough to get better at it.  Now that I've been given wind about this tournament in the works, I've been given this refreshing motivation to practice.

Now my one dilemma is this.  The platform is on the Xbox360.  Tetris Splash to be exact.  One thing I noticed is that one is not rewarded for any type of T-spin triples, certain types of T-spin doubles, and all types of T-spin singles.  If this information is not correct, please let me know.  As far as my tests showed, TSTs only rewarded a player for a triple line clear worth of damage in a VS game, and certain TSDs would only reward a player with a double line clear worth of damage.  If this is the case, would Tetris Splash not be an acceptable game choice for a tournament?  Our options at the moment are the Xbox360 or Nintendo Wii as platforms, because the place hosting the event is a bar/arcade/karaoke lounge and is only equipped with aforementioned consoles.  Why not choose another location?  Simply put, my acquaintance owns the place and is really supportive of the gaming community and is allowing us (as well as other people, Street Fighter 4 tourneys happen there too) to use his location without charge.  He is allowing us to do so because on his end, it'd generate more business to bring people for this tournament.  So we're just working with what we got.  So back to my point on Splash, would there be any other game between those platforms that would better reward a player for all types of T-spins, so that players aren't just limited to Tetris or ren-styled play?

On a side note, my friend and I wanted to stop by Blue Planet (since they are based here in Hawaii) to see what's been going on as of late.  I really have been out of loop in the Tetris world and I was curious as to what's been going on.

In any case, I look forward to your guys' opinions, suggestions, criticisms, and comments about this tournament we want to start up.

Hey Chaos. Glad to hear you're getting back into Tetris. Yeah, Tetris Splash uses "no-kick" detection. In other words, if the last rotation of the T-tetromino resulted in a kick, it won't count as a T-Spin.

Since you have access to a Wii, Tetris Splash Deluxe would be another option. In any case, I hope the tournament goes well. Take pictures!

Yeah, I think Tetris Splash would be preferable in spite of the t-spin limitations, however. I feel like Splash handles better and has more polished rules overall. I know at least Blink and I were hoping for Splash at TWC 2011 rather than PS3, hehe.

As long as you're aware of the detection rules, you can still put down some solid t-spins. It's worth noting, for example, that Imperial Cross still works because of the extra rotation after the TST kick.

Thanks for the reply guys.  I'll perhaps run a testing session on Tetris on the Wii and see if it poses a better feel for a tournament game.  Maybe I'm just feeling biased because I feel one should be rewarded for TSTs and such, but in any case, we want to make sure this tourney happens and we can work out the kinks as we progress.
