well i mainly just play multiplayer arena on TF

Paradox

You should mostly play on that then. As a secondary thing you should go to modes where you can practice solo. When you are solo, work on techniques that you use in multiplayer. For example you can go slow and learn how to t-spin if you don't know how already. As soon as you understand and can do it up to normal speed then attempt it in multiplayer.

Its a good idea in my opinion to practice something in solo until you can do it on a basic level. Then move back to multiplayer and try to learn to do it without focusing on it too much. That way it just feels natural and you can think about overall goals like topping out your opponent and pressuring them.

Play with fumen a lot ( harddrop.com/fumen ) and try to figure out new possibilities or go over a situation you experienced in multiplayer. Try to get a screen recorder so you can watch yourself and notice your own mistakes.

k thanks. well i know how to tspin. and i spent this week in marathon doing perfect clears.. i think i kinda need to work on my speed

Paradox

Speed is something that takes time and you can gain speed by simply playing multiplayer.

I also think you can speed up that process of getting faster by playing 40L.

The majority of the speed you gain in 40L however is useful for the very start of a multiplayer game. This is because you don't receive any garbage lines. As soon as you get garbage its a whole different ball game.

It is still useful though to practice certain techniques faster.

Here are some things I think will really help you get faster:

Practice getting a faster 40L time to improve the speed and quality of your stacking
Practice doing a t-spin start and restart once you get one in- this will train you to be able to attack very quickly
Once you can start out quickly with a t-spin, start adding a few t-spins after as fast as you can

Play dig race on Nullpomino (nullpo.weebly.com) Dig through the garbage as fast as you can.

These are things that you can gain simply by playing multiplayer, but I think it speeds up the process by supplementing each part of the actual game.

There are tons of other things you can do as well. I would never hesitate to ask for help from people on HD because most are willing to help.

play either blockbox 40 lines or nullpomino 40 lines.

blockbox can be found at www.blockboxgame.com, follow the links

nullpomino can be found in the forums under "NullpoMino Gets Netplay" or somesuch title

for my usual opener, i usually go for a perfect clear, but sometimes im able to bail that to a tspin

oh, and i have lockjaw. how does it compare to blockbox and nullpomino?
(i have a pc)

LJ is pretty good for 40 lines, but very few people use it anymore. Nullpo and BB are sort of the standards now.

Yeah it is probably the best around.

I still like blockbox more for speed though, I play faster there for some reason.

Nullpo is great for it's solo (Dig Race, Dig Challenge, 40L) and 1v1 modes.
Blockbox is great for Driller, Survival, and 40L.
TOJ Is clearly the best for Multiplayer and always having a good crowd of people online, I'd say 2nd to TF in population.

Ravendarksky

There are better setups than Perfect clear.. take it from me who does them a lot.

It's useful to know to bust out occasionally against combo starters.

I would suggest doing 40L mode in your game of choice (Nullpo, Blockbox, TOJ or TF) until you can get sub 50 (or sub 55 on TF).

This speed improvement will benefit your multiplayer greatly.

Then I would spend some time on Dig challenge (nullpomino) or the equivalent mode in blockbox. It will teach you to dig better and improve your survival skills in multi player.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions!
