I'll start with this L/J which is very useful. Many beginner/intermediate players would not think about soft dropping this and rotating.. and waiting for gravity is NOT an option in VS.

Edited to better highlight point and so crzy242 can STFU

The first one was just the example where I was using it in game :<

I don't get it.

Also, in your example, unless you meant using 180, this is what would actually happen:
[fumen]110@rdC3mbB3lbE3kbE3kbF3gbI3gbI3gbE3pbqpj7eDSy?cayc6RBAAA[/fumen]

which is why you shouldn't soft drop it in its spawn position(assuming SRS, with ARS your fumen would actually work with synchro moves)

lol i don't get how that's a good example of an L/J spin
it doesn't seem like something you'd need to fix cause you could just build a tspin on that and then do a double or whatever. so..... >_> kind of a useless set up imo

We do not forgive. We do not forget.

Paradox

Using rotate twice is pointless when you can 180 rotate.

thjeres no 180 rotate in TF or TOJ

QuoteLike many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

i dont think this topic concerns games that don't even have a sonic drop; for tf or toj people would have to soft drop to fix these mistakes

right...
It's all about the love

Maii04

most people wouldnt even bother to fit it
they would make into a tspin... that dishes more line which = more benefit

Ravendarksky

*shrugs* I'm obviously not good at making examples.
I use this sometimes to correct mistakes.

Similar thing with a T:
[fumen]110@5cE3kbD3lbE3kbF3jbG3ibG3ibE3gbI3gbI3gbI3gb?H3gbI3gbE3pbVfi7eGtUclUc90AbFBb7Ab6AAAA[/fumen]

I know it may see obvious to most people, but not everyone thinks about these things!

I'm sure there must be other situations like this, where soft dropping and rotating is better than gravity and placement. OBVIOUSLY the best thing to do is to avoid these situations entirely/turn them into tspins or whatever. but that isn't the point.

Paradox

Actually, timing the soft drop can be more efficient because it only requires one rotate while the way you show requires three. Soft drop is inefficient in the majority of cases compared to instant drop. Moreover, games with instant drop are likely have 180 rotate as well. The result is two mandatory rotates but an instant drop.

virulent

hmm i dont agree with stef or noogy here. i think this is pretty useful. sometimes it's just nicer to fix your stack n when you softdrop it it will go into the hole but if you rotate it first it won't. i don't think i've thought of that~ imma have to try it sometime. cause it's a pain to soft drop to a specific height as opposed to a tspin where it automatically goes down to the bottom

XaeL

I think raven's idea is
"its too hard to do twitch softdrops where you have to move it left/right with 1cell precision. Hence dropping to the bottom and then rotating can be a useful alternative"
