My favourites were:
Scalzi - Old Man's War

David Gemmell - Echoes of the Great Song
Terry Brooks - Running with the Demon

clive barker writes some great fantasy. "The Great and Secrete Show" is very good.

The Illuminatus Trilogy is a must read for all if you have not read it.

DARN! Ando, you took my ender's game/shadow recommendation. Well, I second your recommendation, I guess.

umm.... can't really think of anyting else. I did like Life of Pi by Yann Martel(or something like that). That's not really sci fi or fantasy, though. It is fiction and its a good book.

Has anyone read The Illuminatus Trilogy"?
this book is a huge influence on many many works, and pretty much any conspiracy theory.

I pulled this off of wikipedia:
[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE[/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]
"The Illuminatus! Trilogy is a series of three novels written by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson first published in 1975.[1] The trilogy is a satirical, postmodern, science fiction-influenced adventure story; a drug-, sex- and magic-laden trek through a number of conspiracy theories, both historical and imaginary, which hinge around the authors' version of the Illuminati. The narrative often switches between third and first person perspectives and jumps around in time. It is thematically dense, covering topics like counterculture, numerology and Discordianism."

It's a fun and interesting read.
