I don't know if it's relevant or not, but at some time, Loto-Québec (the crown corporation who manages lotteries and casinos in Quebec) released a scratch ticket "inspiré du génie russe" (read: inspired by the Russian genius). It bore the "Authentic Tetris Game" mention and various Tetris copyrights. My mother was excited by that, but didn't abuse of it: 2-3 tickets over it's lifetime and that's it.

Scrolling the leaderboards I saw someone with an icon next to their named saying they were a beta user. They might be in beta but need to fix some bugs or something before they let non-tetris company employees use it. They might have caught on and figured out as soon as they let blink in the whole tetris community is gonna know about the game. So they might want it to be a perfect beta release

   tetrisfriends: FYI, the Tetris LIVE beta sessions have been delayed one more week. The new plan is to begin as early as next Monday. Stay tuned.

apparently there are sign-ups next week, so keep an eye out for that.

We are indeed targeting next week to open up the closed beta for our real-time multiplayer version of Tetris. I can tell you that the game will be browser-based and will use Flash, just like the other games in TetrisFriends.com; however, the initial game will not feature a lot of the features you're referring to. Our goal for the first phase is to test our lobby system and some other key gameplay-related features, but we're not spending too much time on tuning features. That said, we will have forums for beta users to provide feedback and additional input on desired features that will be considered for future updates.

Don't expect any customizable DAS, IHS, or IRS in this first beta build yet or you'll be disappointed, looks like this first phase is just for working out the multiplayer and lobby system.  They better add it in later though - or at the very least the customizable DAS!  Also that next week closed-beta release date is looking like it has a high chance of actually happening, because they are also responding to other people's twitter questions with this timeframe.  Also, boo for no standalone program.

When he says "A lot of the features you're referring to", do you think he knows what you mean?

It is probably gonna be the current 1v1 system in real time. Do you think they are going to do more than 2 player matches? and if so will they stop the targetted garbage system?

hey the screenshots are looking good!  2-6 players, a chat system, casual/ranked mode w/ ratings, items on/off , MAPs for people who want them, SPECTATOR SUPPORT, and private rooms.  Looking nice.  Just add some customizable DAS and I think this could potentially be a really good game.  From the screenshots this is definitely better than what I expected for their first beta, I thought it would be nothing more than the current 6P system but in real time.  That spectator support is awesome cause not even TOJ had that.

Well, maybe in the near future it'll be customizable...eventually...I think.
Besides, I think TF's DAS is a bit slow, while BB's a bit slippery
