I don't work for any company, and I ran a prior warcraft 3 team that had some pretty large semi-pro names. I would search for sponsorship and I'm pretty sure there are a few companies who wouldn't mind doing it if the participants were there. And yeah, chances are it'd have to be an online tournament simply because gathering people is hard work and requires a lot more money than getting a few people to sign up online.

So what exactly do you want to happen?

You want us to host a sponsored tournament or you want us to sponsor your team?

The game used for the tournament would probably be something I'd consider more before taking part than any prize money for an online tournament.

If it was a LAN tournament I'd want a decent chance to cover my travel expenses though, especially if it was held in the USA.

I just noticed the tournament burger king sponsored in japan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7ZOmzh-6R4..._embedded#t=143
How come I've never heard of this before? Is there any way to play Tetris on  http://tetris.hangame.com ?

Rosti_LFC

Unless you have a Korean social number, or knows someone who does, there's no way to play it.

Actually thats Korea, and there is no way to play unless you have a full-privileged account - which requires a Korean social security number and korean cellphone.

Wow. I'm just speechless. They take their Tetris very seriously over there I guess.

This is typical of most Korean websites, actually.

Personally, I'd love to see Tetris tournaments. This brings me back to the days after AP exams had ended in my physics class, when the whole class played Tetris DS for an hour every day. And it WAS exciting to watch other people compete. There's nothing like watching someone get raised to the top of the screen only to pull off an epic victory. As for the "boring to commentate" thing, I'd disagree. Street Fighter II and other fighting games are repetitive too (at least, they are after a couple thousand matches), but they have some of the funniest commentators I've ever heard. Honestly, the real surprise to me is that there AREN'T Tetris tournaments in this country, considering how big competitive gaming is getting.

Couldn't agree more Bowman. I'm going to talk to Fnatic today. I was actually supposed to get an internship with em, going to see if they can sponsor a small scale tournament. There will most likely be restrictions like it will only happen with _____ players. Or the players have to play with a company tag, but I could definitely see it happening. Heh, who knows. If it's a success, maybe Fnatic might make a tetris team!

Corrosive

I'm interested in this
"私は高速ブロックとセクシーな女性が好き"
"Put some stank on those blocks."

I know a lot of the important organizers in e-sports. I know most of the pro warcraft 3 players, however, it doesn't necessarily mean I'm friends with them, but I have a general way to contact them if need be. Not so much SC, and I do have some decent CS / other game contacts as well. In Fnatic's case, I know the general manager, met him through wc3 when I had my own team and he was at the time part of Meet Your Makers as their manager. I actually talked to him last night and he said no that they would not be interested, he didn't even think about it. His main reasoning behind it was simply because the target audience of Fnatic was different from what tetris would bring about, regardless of whether it held publicity in Korea. So, I mean I guess I can talk to a few other people, see what they say. If all else fails, I'll ask Thermaltake.

Also, I did apply for internship at Fnatic, I just never got my documents so that's on temporary hold.
