Hi Luminant,

some HD-Member analysed the TF-Site and found following results.

~50% = Bronze
~50-75% = Silver
~75-90% = Gold
~90-100% = Platinum

and I think 1% is Rank 20 if I am not wrong.

Hope this helps

Tetris / IQ and Tetris?
December 08, 2013, 03:18:36 PM
An interesting question which I have already questioned for myself FireTstar.

In the beginning I was nearly convinced that skilled tetrisplayers have an IQ above average.
But I read a lot of comments of skilled players in the Platinum League in the TF-Arena and I am really shocked how many "not too smart people" with a poisoned character are running around there so that I am not so sure about that anymore..
Tetris always stood for nerdy people in the wide mass of population like Sheldon Cooper for example is.
But if you ask further questions you can think about why tetris is so successful and played by so many people.
I think one good reason is because it is a very simple kind of game which appears to be different in every single game but still even people with an IQ of 80 are able to learn it properly.
Easy to learn and hard to master if you would say that mastering Tetris means to get 40 Lines in 30 seconds.
But its hard to define a border here.. The biggest challenge in the old Tetris was to build and make a Tetris in a certain amount of time. Nowadays you can make T-Spins and combos as well but thats it.

A high correlation can not be made in my opinion because just a few set of skills (which are tested in an IQ-Test) are needed to be a very good tetris player. This would be mainly the processing speed, awareness and the Hand-Eye Coordination, dexterity. The rest is at such a low level that it doesnt count to much and can be done by nearly every human. However, some scientists claim that there is a correlation between the speed of the Informationtransport/Reaction Time and the IQ.
Which could mean that extremely skilled players with 150+ or sub 40 have a very good chance on being very intelligent as well.

Hm I really this kind of music Shadow_Mime unfortunately its not that easy to find something like that.
I will keep it a little up with some different Sounds
So these are 2 in my opinion pretty good Intros, from the Videogames Oblivion and God of War.

Absolutely nice and interesting. I love numbers and statistics, you can extract interesting informations with that. These further stats Integration asked you for would be pretty interesting too.
An impressive study you made there morningpee, I like the look of the graphics too.    Thx for that!

When you need some further practice with different mathtopics till Grade 8 on U.S. Standards you can take a look into the site xpmath.com. The good thing is that you play it as a game, even with highscores!
These are some maybe useful games:

Same Function in different forms (with pictures): http://www.xpmath.com/forums/arcade.php?do...&gameid=117
Order of Operations: http://www.xpmath.com/forums/arcade.php?do...y&gameid=99

Except doing it this way in actual an exam/homework would give you zero marks, or at the very least zero redundancy if you fucked up. Whole point of them stating a technique is to make you practice/demonstrate the technique. In practical situations and jobs you just use Wolfram Alpha for this kind of thing anyway.

Hm ok that sounds bad. It was no problem for me in school, it was even the best way to solve this problem. Realizing that the term has the form ax² + bx + c =0 and then take the most efficient way of solving. Even in the university where I am studying Computer Science and Business/Economics we used this "Midnight-Formula". Wolfram Alpha is awesome btw.

Oh...i think i gave the wrong equation for partial factoring. I think the partial factoring equations I meant were something like 13x+7x+4=0

If you have no equation of a 2nd grade (x²) the form (x-a)(x+b) doesnt work. Its even easier:
13x+7x+4 = 20x + 4 ==> both numbers are dividable by 4 so you can make a 4(5x+1) of it.

And if you want to know what x is, simply put the 4 on the other side and you will get 20x = -4 , divide by 20 on both sides to get the x ==>  20x/20 = -4/20 ==> x = -1/5 or -0,2

... and how to complete the square of  x^2 + 12x + 4 = 0. The finding max rev and profit i'll find later.
Hi Destiny, if you want a very easy and fast solution you can also use this:

Whenever you have an equation of ax²+bx+c=0 you can use the formula (-b+-sqrt(b²-4ac)) / 2a which would mean in this example:

(-12+-(sqrt(12² -4*1*4)) / 2*1
= (-12+-(sqrt(144 - 16)) / 2
= (-12+-(sqrt(128)) / 2
= (-12+-11,31) / 2
==> x1 = -0,34; x2 = -11,66;

Takes a half minute to get the result

How to partial factor y=x^2+3x-10...
x²+3x-10 ==> (x+5)(x-2) = x*x - 2x + 5x - 10

1. It helps if you just take a look at the c=-10, only a=5;10*2;1=b fits into (x+a)(x-b).
2. You have either +-{10,1} or +-{5,2}. The one where you can build a sum of 3 (-2+5) is the b.

Tetris / [Gameboy Tetris]
November 05, 2013, 10:26:19 AM
Ah ok sorry, my English and my perception seems to be a little rusty
Yes i can remember that I had a hard time with playing Level 19 in the beginning too.
But I had a lot of practice with other games I played, so my thumb was very well trained^^
Before I started with playing Tetris I had experience with other games. I hated it in the beginning, I guess because I was not even 7 years old when I started with gaming. But when me and a friend started to play Tetris with the link cable the headache went away and i began to like it  Thats the Tetrisversion where all began and why I still feel a strong connection to 1989 and to the GB.

And another question, is it possible to play level 20 on special mode (with a heart)? My record is level 13 at this mode.

Quote from: Integration
No, you can't. You have to clear 100 lines in heart mode to get to level 20. I guess this is one reason why there aren't that many max-outs (besides people tend to use thumbs; you access heart mode by pressing Down arrow simoultaneously to Start button on 1P/2P select screen)

Tetris on the Game Boy was my first Tetris I ever played and the time when I played it seriously. Although its about 15 years years ago I know that I had to keep pushing the SELECT-Button after switching the GB on. I was then able to play Level 10-19, unfortunately with the same Scoring like Level 0 - 9. 400 for Single, 1000 for Double, 3000 for Triple and 12000 for Tetris on Level ♥9, than 800, 2000, 6000 and 24000 on Level 19. (+10% per Level)
@ Integration: Is it possible that you mixed this up with 1989 from TF? Because I read something about pushing the button down to start on the higher Levels with a Score-Boost? Or is there really another way on the GB which I never knew of? ^^
Congratulations to your great score, my record on the GB was about 520k until my beloved GB died.
But I know you can still do way better

Very good analysis you made there Integration. (Btw I am amazed by your other analyses I have already read) Although I am a noob among all these protetrisgamers on HD it sounds like this Tetrisversion fits better for beginners than for bloody hardcorers.
But these 2 funny guys are the biggest sensation in the video, really worthy to give it a watch
