Tetris Ultimate is a puzzle video game developed by SoMa Play and published by Ubisoft. Ubisoft partnered with The Tetris Company to develop the game to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Tetris franchise. Tetris Ultimate was first released in November 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS as retail game and as digital download in the Nintendo 3DS eShop. In December 2014 the game became available as a digital download for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. These versions were criticized for frame rate issues in the online modes. In 2015, the game was released for PlayStation Vita.


Because of the release of Tetris Ultimate, Nintendo removed the Game Boy version of Tetris and digital download Tetris: Axis from the Nintendo 3DS eShop in December 2014. Since January 2014, Ubisoft holds the license rights for the console/handheld versions of Tetris whereas Electronic Arts retains the Tetris license for mobile platforms.

Sprint

Clear 40 lines as fast as possible.

Power-Up Battle

Versus with items:

  • Hip to Be Square - next four pieces will be the O tetromino
  • Carousel - for 13 seconds the field will shift to the left after each move
  • Let it Rain - drops 10 random garbage blocks from above
  • Haunted Well - field becomes invisible until four pieces are dropped
  • Buzz Saw - defensive power-up that cuts away three of your unfinished lines

3DS-exclusive Modes

Master

Pieces drop instantly and appear at the bottom.

Rotation Lock

Orientation of the pieces are random. Rotation is disabled for this mode.

Escalation

Clear more lines as the game levels up.

Invisible

Pieces become invisible as they drop to the bottom.

Exclusive Modes for PS4, Xbox One, PS Vita, PC

Haunted

Complete marathon while your tetrominoes disappear.

Landslide

Random blocks are dumped on your screen every 10 turns.

Time's Up

Starting with a 30-second game, clear lines and perform moves such as T-Spins and combos to add time to your game.
