- TETR.IO Enters Beta, Releases Quickplay 2 and Tetra League Season 2
After one of the most active months the ranked ladder has seen, TETR.IO Tetra League Season 1 came to an end. Rank cutoffs skyrocketed, the X rank requirement hit 24800 TR, and getting 24999 rounded TR didn’t guarantee a top 10 standing. After a 3-4 hour maintenance period, TETR.IO went into Beta with the release of Beta 1.0.0, introducing Achievements, a new Back-to-Back system, and the brand-new Quickplay 2!
Quickplay 2 replaces the old Quickplay (still accessible in the Rooms screen as the ROYALE room) and introduces a new mode where players scale the Zenith Tower. One notable attribute of QP2 is the lack of downtime between matches - the mode is one continuous King-of-the-Hill battle where anyone is free to join without having to wait for a room to start. As players reach new floors of the Zenith Tower, new game modifiers in the form of tarot cards are unlocked, giving players a challenge. Some tarot combinations enable the player to place on that combination’s Achievement leaderboard, including the arduous “Swamp Water” combination, which requires all but the Duos mod to be selected. The supporter-locked Duos modification (named in-game as The Lovers) lets players team up with a friend to scale the Tower together. If one of the two players falls, the surviving teammate may attempt a revival by completing up to three randomized goals. QP2 also features its own leaderboard, which is available in the Tetra Channel and resets weekly. Previous weeks’ scores are also available on the Tetra Channel.
Along with Beta 1.0.0 came Tetra League’s unranked period, which still utilized TL Season 1 rules. One week later, the new B2B Charging system and Surge Attacks introduced in Quickplay 2 were added to Tetra League during the Season 2 Pre-Season. All Clears now send 5 garbage but count as B2B, All-Spins are counted as Minis and keep B2B, and a new opener phase allows for double garbage canceling in the first 2 bags. - TTC Hosts Tetris Block Party
The Tetris Company revealed the details of their multi-game event, the Tetris Block Party, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Tetris. Players around the world, veteran or beginner, were invited to participate in the 3-week-long event hosted on start.gg/tetris in collaboration with Enhance. Tetris Effect: Connected Classic Score Attack, Zone Battle, and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 tournaments were held every Saturday, along with community showcases on Tetris: The Grand Master 1 & 2, TE:C Connected, NES Tetris, and Game Boy Tetris every Friday. - Edge Posts Casting Call for Upcoming 2v2 Game Show
On Jul 18, Edge announced an upcoming TETR.IO game show/tournament in collaboration with OSW. The event is an invitational event consisting of 4 X/X+ players and 6 U rank or lower players. The higher-ranked players will be able to interview the lower-ranks, who will not be allowed to reveal anything about their in-game skill, emphasizing the bond created between potential teammates rather than focusing on only competitive stats. - Hard Drop Forums Reopen After 5 Years in Read-Only Mode
After going into read-only mode in October 2019, the Hard Drop Forums have been revamped and reopened for anybody to contribute! The forums contain precious moments of Modern Tetris history, housing content from the Tetrisconcept days during the 2000’s to the humble beginnings of today’s veterans during the 2010’s. - World Puzzle League Championship 2024 Concludes
BeastinShen hosted his fourth iteration of the World Puzzle League LAN event in Columbus, Ohio between the 9th and 11th of August. With some community members donating over $1,000, the event raised over $10,000 across all five tournaments, becoming the first Modern tournament to achieve a 5 digit prizepool!
Someone also installed a pirated copy of Breath of the Wild in the LAN and Nintendo sent a warning. While their identity is unknown, Shen advised the culprit to stay off the grid to avoid Nintendo’s legal team and a potential $10,000 fine.

- Botris Battle Tetris Hackathon Commences
Hosted by nukeexplosions and Puzzle Kingdom, Botris Battle is a 3-month long hackathon where teams of up to 8 participants compete to create the best block-stacking AI on a custom client. The hackathon began on August 1 and submissions are open until November 9, 2024 12:00 AM EST with the main showdown taking place on November 9, 2024 6:00 PM EST.
