[[Category:Miscellaneous openers]] |
Latest revision as of 20:26, 12 January 2024
This page is Under Construction.
The Cat Cannon is a 3 bag opener created by the player Cats. It creates a Polygon Cannon, which is a DT Cannon stacked on top of an STSD, making a TSD -> TST -> TSD -> TSD attack. The setup is similar to a King Crimson, however with a DT Cannon instead of a T-Spin Triple. It can be used when your opponent opens with delayed T-spin openers such as DT cannon, or combos such as 4-wide.
First Bag
This is the first bag build. The dependencies are early I and late T pieces.
The S piece can be rotated into position even after the L, Z and T pieces are placed by rotating counter-clockwise.
Second Bag
The second bag can be built in many ways. However, the general idea is to put O on the left side and make a SL or ZJ heart in the middle. Then, you place the T piece on the heart. These two builds are generally used quite often.
If you think you can't build the second bag, or being pressured early with an opener like TKI 3 Opening, you can always opt out for an STSD instead. This would often be a safer option.
Third Bag and Beyond
Place the L and J pieces and fill up the area on the right. If your queue does not have L and J, you can build the DT cannon overhang with different piece sequences such as S and Z pieces. You can also freestyle it as if you were building a DT Cannon overhang midgame.
After all four T-spins are completed, this opener leaves no TST overhang, which is suitable for downstacking or clean 0-9 upstacking.
Alternative Build
The base can also be built with IL instead of JO.
Midgame
Finding a Polygon Cannon setup midgame is difficult and limited due to the height of the shape, as well as wasting multiple T pieces in the stack, however it will offer a huge benefit as it can create a spike with various T-spins. It can often be created when the STSD overhang is not yet placed.
