Belated but this one deserves a forum thread. Remember Aruni's Japanese Tetris League (played on the Steam version of Puyo Puyo Tetris)? saltedbread is doing something similar and it will have roughly the significance of a HDO (Hard Drop Open). Almost 100 players have already registered and over 50 players have already played their gatekeeper match (see Blink's and saltedbread's Twitch channels). Everything important is explained in the following document:

PPT PC Tetris League

Short version: Participants can register via this form in which they state their PPT (Steam) name and the league they want to play in: from S league for the best of the best, over A, B and C league down to D league for unexperienced players. Participants have time until September 2nd (I think) to play the corresponding gatekeeper Blink (S,A) or saltedbread (B,C,D) - the result will determine the league in which the participant will play for real. The gatekeeper match has also the purpose to filter out unreliable players. Each league will featue roughly 10 players of a similar skill level and each player will face each opponent once in said league (round robin). All matches are first to 15 points. Participants will have to play 2 matches per week in average. Matchmaking will be majorly done via Discord.

Since its round robin (and not Single Elimination), it's not too bad, if matches are delayed a little. Also note that the average skill of the participants is a little lower than usual for a tournament on Hard Drop (e.g. worst class in Aruni's tournament is roughly equivalent to B league) - and I don't mean it negatively. Tournaments shouldn't be made for the best of the best only. I think we all just want to have close matches and not being eliminated after just 1 or 2 matches (I look at you Single Elimination). Under circumstances, this league will have a second season in which case players may stay in their league or climb in a higher league, if they performed well (participation in a second season is voluntary of course, new players are also allowed to join).

So you own the PC / Steam version of Puyo Puyo Tetris? saltedbread doesn't seem to have a forum account, so it's better to contact him on Discord (he's also on Twitter and Twitch, his PPT name is "Knicks Defense"). You will most likely need Discord anyway to schedule your matches. Follow this link (HardDrop Discord, better link your account to an e-mail) and either write a message in #pptleague or write a direct message to saltedbread (direct message = private message, use search function or scroll up #pptleague until you find a post from saltedbread, then right-click his avatar image and choose "message").

For reference, here are the qualifyer results and the following image roughly explains for which league you should try to qualify.

Has this tournament already started? If so is there a way I can still join?

i think today is the last day to join

QuoteLike many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

Today (Friday August 31st) is the last day to register via filling out the form. The gatekeeper match can be played on Sunday September 2nd at latest. Hop on Discord and speak to saltedbread and Blink. I think you wanna qualify agaist Blink and he said he's not available today and tommorrow sadly (at his time zone, not yours).

OnePunMan vs Blink (S league qualification):

----------------------------

Qualification phase is over. League matches can start. 108 players have played their qualification matches, if I have counted correctly. More leagues than expected because of the overwhelming amount of participants from all around the world (somehow Japan is underpresented). There's a pinned post on the HardDrop Discord #pptleague channel where find contact information for all participants.

CrazyHIKO had to withdraw from A league because of an earthquake. z2sam moved up to A league because of this. Saltedbread took over z2sam's spot in B league.

1st week S league VODs:
Bad start for aruni, losing against Wumbo and hiroki. Wumbo is the big favourite now. Note that there's a second leg for each pairing, so aruni can still have a comeback in theory.
This post isn't about Salty Cup but I don't want to make an own topic:

The Japanese player After_5_Star hosted some smaller tournaments (After_5_Star Cup) where participants had to compete in different modes (Sprint, Ultra, Versus). First, players had one week time to get a good time in Sprint mode. Then the same for a good score in Ultra mode. Those performances were converted into scores (1 second faster -> 20 more points, 80 points in Ultra -> 1 point). Those scores were added and players were sorted accordingly to determine some groups consisting of 3 players (e.g. the best 3 players from Sprint & Ultra forming one group). Then, the players in each group played multiplayer against each other (first to 15). The win / loss ratio of each 1vs1 was again converted to a score ( a games won, b lost -> a /(a+b)*800 points), and added again to the scores from Sprint and Ultra, resulting in a final score for each player.

There was such a tournament for the Switch version, and there'll be one for the PS4 version. Anyway, Wumbo participated in the Switch tournament ( sprint, ultra,vs1, vs2 ) and he managed to come out as the winner. So, that's worth mentioning because you will barely see a Western player winning a Puyo Puyo Tetris tournament against a bunch of Japanese guys (including e.g. aruni).  That said, he profited a little from being not in the top group and that one of his Versus opponents resigned in the middle of the match (too much lag).
