Why do some people have 2 keys for counterclockwise rotation?

You can hit both keys with different fingers to do a quick 180° rotate.

That's how arcade tetris is:

Left Hand:
D - Hard Drop
Q - Hold
W - Left Rotate
E - 180 Rotate
S - Item

Right Hand:
J - Left
L - Right
K - Soft Drop
I - Right Rotate

Since it's home row, you can simply swap hands if it suits you better. Think outside the box-tetromino!

rotate right to left :W
rotate left to right : Q
Hold: Left Shift
Hard drop: Spacebar

This is something that's bugged me for a little while now.  When I can really devote time to getting better I'm going to take a serious look and see if I can make the proper adjustments, because I'm only using left arrow key for left, right arrow key for right, down arrow for soft drops, up arrow for rotate right and spacebar for hard drops.  I can't double rotate, I never rotate left and I don't hold pieces.  I've used this same configuration since tnet so it's a little hard to think about changing it :[

I recently shifted my controls up by two rows to have a 180 rotate key.

Left Hand:
Q - Rotate CCW
W - Rotate CW
E - Hold
Space - 180 Rotate (or item, although I rarely play with items)

Right Hand:
Numpad 4 - Left
Numpad 6 - Right
Numpad 8 - Hard Drop
Numpad 5 - Soft Drop

up: hard drop
down: soft drop
z: CCW
x: CW
c: CCW or 180 for different games where either is applicable
hold: whatever the game has it on. I rarely use it.

Here's my one for Cultris 2. I use 180 almost every time I need to press rotate twice.

Hard Drop - Spacebar
Soft Drop - Down
Left/Right - Arrows
Rotate CCW - D
Rotate CW - F
180 rotation - Up Arrow
Hold - Left Shift (in TF and Nullpo)

The reasons for choosing that layout were: Blink giving tips about balance between hands; and my keyboard, which has keys set low. I've got my fastest results with this config.
