I'm actually just starting on NullpoMino and trying to decide on my key configuration...  On Tetris Friends, I have it set to:

left/right - left/right
up - rotate right
w - rotate left
down - soft drop
space - hard drop
shift - hold

That's just what I ended up changing it to from the default, which i didn't like. I don't like using the bottom row of keys for anything because it's uncomfortable for my hand to be that low because of how close my keyboard has to be to the edge of the desk, and how I'm unwilling to actually have my wrists unsupported by the desk.

I recommend seeing how and where your hand+fingers naturally rest on the keyboard, then make a key setting based on that. And also think about where you put move left and move right and put them in convenient places (where fast/strong fingers rest)

Don't worry about it being too confusing or different, in time you will get used to it. I got used to 4 different schemes already and I can switch between any of them when I feel like it.

And avoid using keys that are larger (spacebar) as it takes slightly longer to push down.

But oh well, now i get tet-lag everytime i switch,

QuoteLike many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

Gross, World Reverse. God, why did that have to happen in the first place. TTC must have had some retarded guideline that the right-most button has to be right rotate, I'm sure of it. Sega Ages Collection on the PS2 has that awful button layout as well.

and harddrop on UP right ?

i cant see me playng fast like that.. haha...

Kitaru

Traditional ARS:
Up - Sonic drop (fast non-locking)
Down - Soft drop (slow locking)

Traditional SRS:
Up - Hard drop (fast locking)
Down - Soft drop (slow locking)

What I wish it was:
Up - Sonic drop
Down - Hard drop

Magna- my controls are the same layout as yours, and I'm currently on 33.69 and hope to go sub 30 in a few months- and the keys are not the limiting factor on my speed as yet, so you should be ok.

My right hand is the same as yours exactly and on my left the only significant difference is x being hard drop because my spacebar is more noisy and less efficient than my other keys

Definitely. Pushing two drop buttons isn't bad on a keyboard, but that must be horrible on a stick.

Yeah, this layout works pretty well. If I actually played more (and focused on 40L instead of trying to get good at TGM), I'd be under forty seconds at least.

Also: I worked in double rotate on the A key, but it's kind of weird to use your pinky. Not sure if want.

Actually it is probably better on stick, but still. :P

I think I find the keyboard layout that fits me well.    My controls are:

Left Arrow: Left
Right Arrow: Right
Down Arrow: Soft Drop
Up Arrow: Hard Drop
Left Shift: Rotate Left
Z: Hold
X: Rotate Right

zmino

Ok, I have been using the default TF controls (yea, I know). I'm using the up arrow to rotate. Should I change up the controls? Everyone is telling me that when I get better I'm going to need two keys to rotate. Is it that big of a deal? Every time I try to change the controls it's so hard for me to get used to them. Is this a problem or can I stick with the controls I'm comfortable with?

Most players play with double rotation.. so we have two keys for rotations. I have the blockbox defaults for my key setup.

Controls:
left, right: LR directions
up: hard drop
down: soft drop
space: hold
z: left rotate
x: right rotate

You don't have to do double rotation, there are players who play single rotation and are well rounded players. I used to play with Blockles default.. which is the same as Tetris friends I think.. so we had single rotation over there. Once I moved over the BB though, I figured that learning double rotation wouldn't hurt.. It took me roughly a week to learn it. I think doing whatever is comfortable for you would be best.

We do not forgive. We do not forget.

zmino

Good to know. Thanks. I think I'll at least TRY to learn double rotation.
