this past semester, i broke my up and down arrows on my laptop and had to find something else. so i resorted to what i believe to be the ultimate lazy man's setup.

i use my right hand only. so yes, the constant slight twist my wrist is at causes cramping and inability to play laying down. i really have to be sitting indian style on my bed or in a chair to be comfortable, but it's the most comfortable position i can be in.

w - rotate clockwise
s - soft drop
a - left
d - right
left shift - hold
space - hard drop
2 - rotate counterclockwise, a feature whose efficiency i have not yet tested.

For you guys that use "left" and "right" arrow keys to move left and right, you use your thumb or different fingers?

@DarthDuck Thumb is for the telephone!    I use:
left: left
right: right
harddrop: down
softdrop: Rctrl (just for combo race)
left rotation: c
right rotation: x
hold: space
restart (for nullpo): Lshift
180 rotation: up (just for the first few pieces in sprint)
instant drop in tgm: up

currently trying this:

left hand:

spacebar=soft drop
a=hold
s=left rotate
d=right rotate
e=180 rotate
f=hard drop

right hand:
j=move right
k=move left

i agree, especially if you use your thumb for space. as much as you use hard drop it should be assigned to a faster key and finger.

left hand
rotate left: S
rotate right: D
hard drop: F

right hand
left: J
soft/firm drop: K
right: L
hold: ;

if i'm playing a game with locking soft drop i'll move it to F.

Ok well here is my new newer setup. Everything feels great except soft drop which seems shaky.

Left hand:

spacebar: hold
left rotate: d left rotate: s left rotate: a (or s) on nullpo back to d[/s] left rotate: s
harddrop: d
right rotate: f
180 rotate: e
LoLitem: v
pause/ragequit: escape

Right hand:

up: harddrop un-strikethrough
down: softdrop
left: left movement
right: right movement

edit: I got rid of up as harddrop. Now I just use the down arrow for soft arrow so all my fingers are on the same row (and it's nice to stick to at least one default the way I learned it). I hope I am not throwing myself out of balance with that. I moved my left rotate from d to s so that hard drop can go in between. I am left handed and this feels more natural. Left rotate moved to 'a' since my ring finger is too weak.

And I have to say I am suffering from what appears to be a major hangover from all these changes. Music, sudden-anything, people, animals, they all annoying the **** out of me lol.

Completely rearranging my setup (space was harddrop, up and down were rotate, f was soft drop, shift was hold) has caused me to stop using the hold key which was my original motivation. Now that it has a new key I don't have that spammy impulse anymore. And I am left-handed so rotating with my left hand is great and I shouldn't get early-onset arthritis now (I used to get bad strain on my right hand). I chose d and f for rotate because they are the strongest fingers (if you study martial arts you are only supposed to strike a punch with the inner two knuckles).

So far, the best advantage of starting from scratch with a new keyboard map is that 180-rotate is just as easy and intuitive as the other rotates, rather than something that had much less exposure than my prior rotate keys.

Soft drop is very awkward for me but I should get used to that. I still misdrop like crazy by accidentally harddropping with up arrow but I'm sure that will fade. Much thanks to everyone in this thread for the ideas and the insights.

lol not lazy if you have to sit in a non-lazy pose to do your setup

a-item or 180 (left pinky, dont really use it too much)
s-hold
d-CCW
f-CW
j-left
k-hard drop
l-right
;-soft drop

pros:

- asdfjkl; is easy to locate on any board without looking because f and j have a notch for typists

- can easily switch boards, like if if i go to the library, or at work, or whatever, because asdfjkl; are in the same relative positions on every board.  Space bar and arrows tend to move  and change size with the whims of the the designer

-each finger is on its key at all times, no time is lost moving back and forth, the only movement is the key press

cons:

- i have found that soft drop on the right pinky makes dropping while going left or right and spinning a bit tricky, but i guess its a bit tricky anyway.  I bombed many t-spin triples as a result.

electrofry

well guys im in a bit of a pickle.
i use the default controls for everything.
but then i experimented with other setups. and now my muscle finally has memory to rotate clockwise with x instead of up. but now... my muscle also has memory of hold being Lshift when its actually C. so everytime i wanna hold i stumble for about 1 second before i move my finger to c.
when the going gets tough, i get going.

Kitaru

Well, if worse comes to worse, Shift doesn't sound like such a bad Hold.

I tried switching hold to space and cw to A. just played 40L with new settings. took 2mins to finish 40L. going back to my previous key settings.. too hard to adjust.. will eventually , but for now... too lazy...

i'm sure this has already been mentioned..but why is it theoretically beneficial to remove space bar from your controls? [not saying that it's not]
