active topic list too short?

Since there is some kind of atmosphere of departure now, I want to address a thingy that bugged me for a long time: the number of shown active threads on the main forum page.

I think more is better. Whenever a thread disappears from that list, chances are bad that it will be brought back there. Honestly, I barely check the subforums. We should have enough activity such that at least 10 threads had some activity within the last week.

Currently 7 topics are shown. You can choose between 6 and 11. I chose 9.

Maybe add a drop-down list under a user's board settings in their control panel to choose the number of active topics to display.

simply twice as many as the current layout.

One idea is to make it like 20 topics. Then, use an inline frame that users can scroll to see all the topics so it doesn't take any extra space up.

May as well just do away with the subforums and lump everything in one forum. Wouldn't kill us, we could have proper stickies, and wouldn't have the problem of people not going to the subforums.

We would have too many stickies in one forum that way. i like the way the subforums are made, everything's organized. if a user is looking for a quick answer, we now have caffeine's "help me" thread.

Most of those stickies could be unstuck anyway. Nobody ever goes in the subforums so they don't notice it's time to take them down
