kbr, will the semi finals and finals matches also be bo3?
Yes, they will be Bo3.

I should have more information on specifics this week.

I'll see you guys there. =]

I'll possibly be looking for a team mate if I do the team match, and let me know if anyone wants to do some 1v1 scrimmage games over PSN in the days leading up to the tournament.

My cousin and I will attend the tournament. If you want caffeine, I can scrimmage against you anytime before the tournament.

Triple Lei will be there, too? Sweet. I'll definitely take you up on those scrims. I think I've got a working mic this time, too.

I'm so psyched about this. As far as real life multiplayer tournaments go, this one might be the toughest one to date, considering some of the people attending.

It's just gonna be awesome to be around a bunch of other Tetris enthusiasts who also love the game. I wonder if Mr. Henk and/or Alexey will be making an appearance.

Well dang, one mistake and you're out. I'd do best of five for the semi-finals and best of seven for the finals (at least).

Just let me know. We could do a 3 or 4-way private match. Triple Lei and I both have mics.

As far as the tournament goes, this will be my first one I participate in (online or live). I'll definitely be nervous and I'm not expecting I'll do very much. I'm just stoked to meet all the Tetris fans, both casual and hardcore ones coming from different places (at least in the US).

the context is of international sweepstakes. link worked fine for me.
I figured so much. I'd reckon it's not particularly applicable for this sort of thing, as sweepstakes are a form of gambling and therefore have various laws in place around them, whilst a gaming tournament won't be subject to anything like the same scrutiny in the legal department.

Plus this technically isn't an international tournament anyway, given it's held in America and all participants will presumably have to be there in person. It'll only have to abide by US laws.

Also link works for me now, I have no idea why it didn't earlier.

Good news:
Oh cool. I'd wanted to do the Tetris Link one.

Edit:
kbr, will the qualification 40 lines rounds be done on "Orgin"?
Also, will bringing your own controller be a problem? I know PS3 is kind of weird with the wireless controllers. I'd imagine having multiple PS3s in the same room might confuse the controllers.

Kitaru

Blink, how do I like posts on Hard Drop?

Yes, it will be done on origin.

Bringing your own controller won't be a problem, but as mentioned earlier, it needs to be the OEM PS3 controller. I suggest just coming and playing with what is supplied. All of the PS controllers will be connected to the PS3's with the USB charging cable. It would be more efficient and expedite the qualification process if everyone used what's supplied.

I updated the first post with the most current information. Some specifics have changed and I hope this won't be a problem.

Update in a nutshell:
NES - Top 8 players with highest score will enter semi-finals

PSn 1vs1 - Top 8 players with fastest Origin times (40 Lines) will enter semi-finals. In the event of a tie, score will be the determining factor. Top 8 will be seeded in a single elimination, Best of 3 Matches. Final 2 players will face off in a Best of 5.

PSn Teams - Updated Registration info/times. Team tournament begins at 11am. Single elimination, best of 3.
Final 2 teams will face off in a Best of 5.

YOU CAN ENTER AND QUALIFY FOR EACH TOURNAMENT. Remember to attempt to qualify...it will be an additional $3 for each attempt, regardless of platform.

I have two teams registered at the moment. Slots are still open, but more info is going out to the official site, so I suggest you hurry!

Thanks for the update kbr, but why is the 1v1 touney so rushed?  Only 8 players will be matched up against  each other and only bo3.  Basically if anyone wins 2 games they're already in the finals.

With the reduced amount of matches being played, couldn't there be a higher best of format.

It coincides with the NES tournament as well. The semi-finals will be on stage, one match from each console at a time. When the finals begin, it will be one console at a time. We're dealing with very strict time constraints and I am also not fond of the layout. But this is what we have to work with...

Blink and others, how long do you think 5 games of head-to-head on a PSn will last? Assuming that all 5 games will be played more or less equally skilled players...
