Will each qualifying attempt for the PS3 tournament cost $3?
Yes. One attempt is $3 for each tournament, except for Team Battle (only one team can attempt once as it's a bracket system)

kbr

Updated team section. Registration will now be closed once 32 teams register. Currently we have 5 pre-registered. Remember to register as pre-registration will end on Friday!!!

See you guys this weekend!

Thanks for the update, I have some questions:

If there's not a lot of teams, can the team tournament have more rounds than a bo3?

Is there going to be commentary while we're playing?

Do you know how big the TVs are?

Kitaru

Oh, I've got one: will TVs have headphone jacks? I find clear sound is very useful for NES -- I key in on the move clicks for skillstop finesse.

Blink, don't think so. And the TV's should be either 40 or 46 for teams.

Kitaru, please ask Vince about the TV, not really informed on that side of the hardware.

Thanks a lot for all that came and watched. (This is Robin Mihara).  Alex (Kitaru) has made all of us old school players proud, and has continued to be the glue between our formats.  Thanks to kbr, Blink, Ben, Supa and everyone else here for keeping the ball rolling, I know it wasn't perfect, but hopefully with constructive criticism and problem solving we will keep getting better every year.  It was an honor meeting so many of you in person last Sunday and I hope we can keep in touch...  Lastly, Blink can I get one of those shirts still?

Hey Robin, it's really cool to see you on the forums! I hope we see more retro gamers here after your film makes it bigtime. You probably wouldn't remember me, but I'm Nick (one of the guys with an HD shirt). I got to watch a little bit of your games when I wasn't on stage, and I was very impressed. It's interesting to see "old school" style in person from one of the very first competitive Tetris players! Everyone: we are in the presence of a Nintendo World Championship finalist!

Sorry for the late response Robin.  It was nice meeting you too, hopefully next time we can talk a bit more.  You're one of the organizers of the event right?  I think a lot of players are in favor of having a different company stream if there's anymore events, girlgamer has done a pretty biased and poor quality job the past 2 events.  Also, it would be nice if spectators were allowed during the qualifying stages.  I went to the event with some friends, but they were forced to wait outside and do something else for 3 hours while I tried to qualify.  About the shirts, we only ordered 12 and they were all gone the day of the event, but really anyone can make the shirt and it would be the same thing.  The logo is below, you can have it done at any custom t-shirt place.

Hey, no I am not one of the organizers anymore.  I helped drag TVs around this year, but had little to no input on how it went down.  One day I was just told what the rules were.
About the stream, Girlgamer was not paid to do their stream, they volunteered for the second year in a row, and for that I cannot criticize them.  Something is better than nothing I suppose.  Since the quality was less than perfect, I guess I'd recommend bringing someone with an awesome camera/laptop set up that can do your side exclusively.  I imagine that CTWC 2012* would be more than happy to grant a HD member all press privileges if they were willing to put in the effort.  Vince Clemente runs it now and is only given so much funding per year and hiring someone to stream it professionally is not high on the priority list since it brings in little revenue compared to paying players/spectators.  On the topic of money, sadly Vince is going to take a large loss this year since the event didn't do as well as we thought it would.  So yes, hundreds of hours of work and planning are going to end in him owing money instead of earning (or even breaking even).  Its extremely unfortunate and frankly might keep this event from happening again... at least with us.
We should talk privately John.  I have gone over a lot with Alex over the past year, but my loudest advice was to contact Vince and get in the decision making process with Vince.  I cant speak for him, but if a higher-up local HD member wanted to take the reigns for the PS3(or whatever newer version), I think that would be more of a relief for him than an imposition.  I honestly believe that the only way to get things changed with certainty is to act yourselves and act early.  Messages to us (me especially) can get lost in the shuffle as you have seen.  We (well, Vince) are spread thin and basically working in between huge commitments for free. :-/  I don't mean to use a poor me card, just explaining part of the reason why things seem less efficient than they could be.
I'll pm you my email, but Im on this film festival circuit atm (sitting in a Dennys in Austin TX atm) and wont be back from Amsterdam for a month or so.  Maybe compile a list/plan of attack until then, and we can chat somehow when my movie life cools down.

Out of curiosity, what were the qualifying 40 line times around for this event?
