Hi everyone,
So i watched Bl1nk, WendyLOL, Arf replays and they do have 1 thing in common when they are in battles. I noticed that none of them uses ST/ZT stacking. My question is, why don't they ST stack considering the attacking power it gives. The thought of st stacking came to my mind when i came across a video on youtube showing this guy sending a total of 206 lines in 2minutes on tetris battle facebook. And yes, I noticed that it would be less of a good strategy to st stack for players like Bl1nk and Arf because they dont play on facebook and the garbage is not a clean line like on facebook. So, is ST stacking a good strategy on 2p battles??

When you play battle 2p you don't have to dig through the garbage your opponent sends you because its all solid. You just send lines and they disappear magically.

Its not all about sending, downstacking is very important as well.

I tend to classify set ups like this as "static". static set ups are very good for battle 2p, but not in a real game because of the inability to downstack as well as other set ups.

IMHO, in Tetris Battle, ST stacking works well because you don't have to worry much about downstacking. Even if you get KO'd, the game will still continue. And your garbage lines will magically disappear after that. So all you have to do is stack really fast, sending as much lines as possible in 2 minutes. In the end, the player with the most lines sent and KOs wins the battle.

In "real" games (are they called VS games?), the game ends when either player gets KO'd. The nature of ST stacking is that the stack is quite high most of the time. So it's pretty hard (or impossible?) to downstack. I guess it will still work against slower players, because you can always cancel their garbage by timing your T-spins. But if the opponent is fast, it's pretty much impossible to cancel their garbage, because you can only send lines when you get a T or I piece.

You can try using ST stacking against a fairly fast AI in Nullpomino, and you'll see why it's a bad strategy. You're pretty much dead when the AI manages to send you garbage, and the "hole" is located somewhere underneath your stack.

that replay is obviously fake. i love the rotatex5 in < 1 second.

QuoteLike many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

Tetris Battle is a bad game and shouldn't be used for comparisons. I mean, you can get knocked out four times without the game ending, WTF.

You haven't seen awesome Tetris until you've watched Flamewheel do ST stacking openings in free-for-all. I wanted to recruit him for my team a long time ago, but he was too busy playing Starcraft. 3+ PPS ST Stacking ftw
