FFA is just for fun
This isn't really a good argument for why FFA should be allowed to have bad mechanics.

[!--quoteo--][div class=\\\'quotetop\\\']QUOTE[/div][div class=\\\'quotemain\\\'][!--quotec--]- "Garbage hole is changed on each attack..." Currently, when the attack meter is flushed, there may be a really long I-slot in the garbage right. You are requesting that each attack that fills the attack meter will trigger the I-slot in a different location? If so, I'll have to see how much work this is to implement before making any promises.[/quote]

Doesn't the garbage already change on each attack??!?!?!?!? I thought it was already the way we wanted it to be in E+ and that the person who wrote this is totally confused.

crzy242

garbage hole changes on each add to your bar. so all garbage added on at once will be a straight column

Kitaru

Uhhh... my understanding was that people discovered hole changed on the actual add to your field, not per attack entry. That is to say, if you let it fill up and drop a piece, you get straight garbage.

oh i see. so they implemented it wrong...

mippo

yes this is what makes combos extra powerful at the moment
because if you are going at more or less the same speed and
you are receiving a combo without letting the meter fill you will get very messy garbage.

I liked the part where soft drop in Survival was a locking drop after level 7. It made t-spins really easy to do.

I think auto-handicapping was removed in Expert and Expert Plus rooms. Soon TF should introduce a new ranking class though. Level 20 has become flooded. I remember back when only two or three rooms were open at any given time.
I completely agree. Just look at the Arena leaderboards. 95 players on there are max. That leaderboard doesn't really show who's the best. And Plat rooms aren't what they use to be. There are plenty of players that are not that good yet they are still there. There really needs to be a 5th rank. I'm just too tired of playing shitty players.

I sent TF support a message a couple of days ago saying that the crowns are offsetting the 0 net rank change in platinum rooms, leading to rank inflation. I suggested another class above platinum where net rank change is negative each match, so that way, only the elite stay afloat in that class.

Bang on.

Softdrops are training wheels, and random targets just allows for random stuff to happen, resulting in bad players winning every once in a while.

They're asking for a mode that's pretty much decided by the experts of the experts, for the experts. Trainingwheels off and competitive bits in please! If you think it's too hard, it probably is, so you should stick to the short-bus version...

KeroKai

While it's cool that this is all for the elite. There are still medium based players like myself that would like an improved version of E+ in regards to combos/garbage.  If targetting is removed. Garbage to all should be an option rather than compulsory in the game. Otherwise, you're essentially locking out players from these supposedly improved game mechanics that people wish to draw attention to on how it's superior.

Kitaru

How would that lock people out? It doesn't have to be full-on, trip-to-the-top Hangame send-to-all. A reduced attack table or even division of garbage sound perfectly acceptable to me.

Garbage is reduced to a % relative to the amount of players. Very simple if you think about it... Random is random, and a good tool if you want to negate skill. No idea why they went with the random target stuff in the first place. The person who invented it deserves a severe beating.

Magnanimous

Most multiplayer games (chess, Starcraft, Halo, Guitar Hero, etc) have no randomness at all, it's just you against the opponent... And then games like SSBB have small amounts of randomness that the pros know how to react to. But the more random you make the game, the closer you get to playing War, and that's hardly a measure of skill.

I think that giving everyone the same randomizer and seed is enough randomness, really. It's not the same game each time, and it's perfectly fair to everyone.

I figured I'd let you know that there are some minor elements of randomness in StarCraft. Ranged units on the low ground attacking units on the high ground have a 50% miss rate. This averages out to halving their damage output, but any one shot in particular has a chance of hitting or not. The obvious consequence is that having the low ground is a disadvantageous position, which is something the player can work to control -- i.e., ensure they are even with or have the high ground over the opposition.

In Tetris, you obviously have less control over your positioning as you cannot avoid being targeted. Heck, the people attacking don't have very much control over who they end up targeting either unless they stall their attacks.
