okay so what i have been practicing lately is how to perform perfect clears, unfortunately there arent many videos online and there arent any strategy guides (that i know of) what i have been doing is watching this one video, i cant think of the name but this guy just gets a ton of perfect clears im sure everyone knows what im talking about.  ive been watching it and seeing how he bunches his pieces up to get perfect clears and bascially copying him, i get a perfect clear one out of every probably 30 starts, i want to get good enough to where i can get a perfect clear about one out of every 4-5 starts and use it on tetris friends in battle 2 player.  basically i want to know how you go about getting perfect clears and what are some good ways to bunch pieces together to make squares 4 blocks tall. thanks

I know I've seen a TOJ video where a dude gets a whole bunch of perfect clears, but I don't know where it is. Recently, caffeine put up a video of him doing a whole bunch of perfect clears.

Don't know if there's a guide, but you could try studying him.

I've been working on algorithms for perfect clear openings, but I haven't come up with anything substantial yet. The basic theory is that you play your first bag in such a way that the next three pieces will clear the field.

A decent technique is to set up your first bag in one of these ways:
[fumen]105@Je8eaiRpjb8eYi1lssRpib8eIw1ltslzhb8eKwsslz?sbA4GJeEYpUss0l8eKw8eEYoURpgb8eEY0lIw8eEY4GMR8e?EYgbxNYi8eEY6GEYMRUKZi8epbAAA[/fumen]
At this point, you have a 2/7 chance of getting the right pieces. Basically, you'll get a PC with IJT, IZJ, ITL, IOJ, JST, IZL, TOI, TOJ, JZT, or TOL.

EDIT: I haven't factored in Hold yet, though, so the odds are actually a little higher.

wait are you sure you did that right? are those 2 situations supposed to be completely opposite because in one the T piece touches the ground and in the other it isnt

Magnanimous

Those are right: both of them have a 2/7 chance of leading to a PC, just with different piece combinations. (The setups that mirror them will work too.)

nice tip Magna, i'll have to watch for situations like that.

You mean that all of these will fit into either/or of the two setups, right? These won't all work for both setups (unless I'm missing something).

Sorry, I was reading from the wrong column, so not all of those are right.  Also I missed two, so there's twelve, not ten.

Anyway, each setup needs different pieces, but all of them have twelve combinations that work out of a possible 35. For example, the combinations that can fit in the second setup I posted are...
IJT, IZJ, ITL, IOJ, JZT, IZL, ITZ, TOL, LTZ, STZ, ITO, IJS
[fumen]105@MelzssKw8ehblzts1lIw8eibRpss1lYi8ejbRpai8e?pbAoUFATo2hEQBAAAJe8eJw9e0laikz8eIw9e1ltsYikz8e?IwssRp0ltsIwkz8eusRpKwkzpbAQpDApufBAKe5Gnb4Gobo?UEYnbUKFYvbAwNDAp3fBA7eAufBJeaiG3YissH3usG3/eF3?pbAwNDApOkBAMeG31lH31lgbG3/eF3pbAwNDAJnfBAdeKwo?bIwwbAAAMeG3JwH3IwRpG3IwgbRpF3pbAwNDAqX2BAdeusn?bssxbAAAMeG3RpH3gbRpG3/eF3pbAwNDApXkBAdeaimbYiy?bAAAJe8ehbG38essH38etsG38esshbF3pbAwNDApuDCAMeQ?pnbRpnbQp6bAAAMewNnbxNmbQppbRpvbAAAJeusG3YissH3?YiRpG3ZiRpF3pbAwNDAsuDCAMeG31lH31lssG3gbusF3pbA?wNDAUHkBAdeaimbYiybAAAJesshbG3tsH3sslzG3lzhbF3p?bAwNDAzuDCAMeQpnbRpnbQp6bAAAMewNnbxNmbQppbRpvbA?AAJesshbG3tsH3sshbG3/eF3pbAwNDAp+qBAee1lnb1lwbA?AAKelzG3lzH3ibG3/eF3pbAwNDApvzBATeJwnbIwobIwybA?AAee8ekzG3gbJwwbAAA7eAAwNAA[/fumen]

Also: with Hold, you can get one of those twelve combinations about 74% of the time. That's not bad.

Yup I posted that set up a week ago.

This one can be set up most of the time. You just need the 3 right pieces afterwards, and there are a few combinations that would work.

I think a variation of it is used in geroppa's video, which is where I found it.

I noticed many different set ups that could be used and i'll probably post them.

The hard part though is accounting for what you will have after the perfect clear (4 remaing bag pieces and 6 from the next bag) to make another perfect clear.

I've been playing around with this but I prefer the other side of the screen..... I can only seem to get 11 of the combos though.

IJT, ILZ, IOL, IOT, IJS, TLZ, JSZm ITZ, OTL, ITL, STZ

Guess I Suck >_<

My TF account has 107 PCs in 1897 games... not too bad for a n00b I think, especially since it's not my normal opener.

Here's the other setup:
[fumen]105@NelzKw8eiblzss1lIw8ehbRpts1lYi8eibRpssai8e?pbAoUFATo2hEQBAAAJeBfaikzai9e0ltsYikzYissRp1lts?IwkzusRp0lKwkzpbAQpDApOkBAJeIwSplbts0lmbQpYinb+?ewbAQpDA0vzBAJe4GyNlbpUoboU7bAQpDApufBATeUKZimb?8eYinb6GwbAwNDApvzBATeJwnbIwobIwybAgbTe5GybJwwb?AgbJe/eF3sshbG3EYoU8embEY5GwbAwNDAp+qBAee1lnb1l?wbAgbJeRphbF3ssRpG3gbYissnbNRwbAwNDAUtDCAKekzob?lzobkz6bAgbKecDobdDpbkzmblzwbAgbJeIwibF3KwG3FY9?elboUwNcDwbAwNDAUnfBAeeusnbsswbAgbJe8esshbF38et?sG3UKgb1llboUMRUKwbAwNDAp+zBAKekzoblzobkz6bAAAK?ecDobdDpbkzmblzwbAgbJe/eF3ibG30lEY9elbEYNRwbAwN?DApiDCAdeaimbYiybAAALelzF3gblzG3RpH3gbRpG3pbAwN?DAKtDCATeJwnbIwobIwybAgbNeF3EY4GcD8elbEYoU8embE?YxNwbAwNDA0/jBATeZiJwmbYiIwnbYiIwwbAAAJe/eF3ibG?31lH31lgbG3pbAwNDAJnfBAdeKwobIwwbAAA[/fumen]

This time, the twelve combinations are ITO, ITJ, ITL, ITS, IJS, ILZ, TOJ, TJL, TJS, TSZ, JSZ, and IOJ... And seven of those were in the first setup.

Of course, you have to play the pieces in the right order... I'm figuring the exact probabilities for each combination, factoring in Hold. I'm also trying out a few other setups to see if there's one that works even better.
