So here I am.

I'm IanMcFluffigus. My interests include piano, guitar, singing, soccer, and... Need I say it? Tetris. I started playing about a month ago on tetrisfriends and I was immediately hooked. I then saw that most of the people on the leaderboards were Tetrisconcept people, and I was all, "Schnizzle, these guys are serious.   ". So I went on to the chat sometimes, read the wiki, but never quite got around to joining the forums. I decided that once I got back from the beach, I would finally join TC, and then I came back and discovered that it's no longer here. So I decided to join this community, and I really hope it grows in to a warm, loving place that I found that TC was.

Nice one.

Which team?

Nice one.

Which team?
Celtics (<3 scottish teams) & my high school team, even though we play "HOLY SCHNIZZLE!" premiere teams that we have to travel 2 hours to play twice every week. They're hardcore. Some kid on one of those teams said he'd stab my brother.

Nice one. Liverpool fan, so naturally prefer Celtic over Rangers for scottish teams (You'll Never Walk Alone).

Nice to know not everyone in America supports bloody Manchester United. You're still keeping up the trend though of nobody in America supporting an MLS team

Manchester United... PFFFFT!!!
I would support MLS if there was a team with some good players in it... *sigh*
We need some rich, greedy, american soccer fan who could just buy every single soccer talent in the world and bring them to the US, and evenly distribute them among all the MLS teams.

what is MLS??
Major League Soccer. The US league for soccer.

yeah i was just going along with Rosti's joke. i've heard of MLS once or twice. seriously, it needs a lot more publicity, whether there's a lot of talent in the league or not. minor league baseball is more popular, because at least it draws interest in smaller towns.

Rosti_LFC

I don't think that football necessarily becomes better to watch as a sport just because it has more talent. Sure, individual moves are generally far better with talented teams, but I find you get more exciting scorelines in the lower leagues more often (6-4 rather than just 2-1).

I think the problem MLS has is that football is in general not particularly popular in the USA, and those who actually follow it tend to just get European matches through cable or whatever rather than putting money into supporting their local team and going to matches.
As people support the likes of Barcelona and Manchester Utd, and buy merchandise and the like, their revenues increase while those of the MLS get smaller.

The MLS also has a huge problem in that it caps wages. No point in any of the big talent moving over to America to play for a US team, winning nothing important and having their wages slashed.

IanMcFluffigus

Well, it looks like my travel team is off to the playoffs today. We're playing this team we tied 1-1 with these two kids that they borrowed from a premiere team. Then, should we win that, I'd imagine that we'll be playing either this one team that we borrowed a couple of kids from so we could play in a tournament (my team plays with either no subs or down one or two players every week) or this other team who has a goalie who's like Jesus in between the posts

Wish me luck

the MLS needs to do a better job of promoting if they want to draw fans in. i don't know what they need to do to get mentioned on Sportscenter more often, but they're not doing it.

it's very popular among kids. it might be the most played sport for kids under 10 years old. for whatever reason though, most of the best athletes tend to move on to American football or basketball.

well, that could explain why the MLS doesn't have much money to promote the league.

that's something i would be against morally. it seems like a sport where players generally represent the areas where they grew up and live, unlike American football, baseball, basketball, and especially hockey.

good luck in the playoffs Ian

edit: it might be my ignorance assuming that football players usually represent the areas they grew up in.

Rosti_LFC

I would say you're a little wrong in suggesting that players respect the areas or even countries that they grew up in with respect to club football. While some players do have local people who have grown up through the youth system to play for the first team, most of the players move around quite a lot and don't stay in one place.

And I can understand it being a popular sport for kids. I think the whole reason it's a popular sport worldwide is that you don't need any sort of specialist equipment to play it with, and you can play it in some form with pretty much any number of people on any surface. We used to play it while waiting for our bus to school by finding a discarded coke bottle to use as a ball and having the door to the bus shelter as a goal.
Most other popular sports require a specific item (bat, racquet, hoop, sticks, etc) and a certain number of people to play. Football doesn't.
