This may seem odd, coming from someone with comparably minimal involvement with the community at large, but after the rather sudden series of events this past week, I have a proposal.

At present, TC.net functions in the same way Caffeine's TC did, emphasizing text/image-based content on the Wiki and providing mostly technical information (records, etc.) as a whole.

In contrast, HardDrop has taken a different approach, providing a multimedia approach similar to GameSpot and other larger gaming communities. Their Wiki links to a Wikia page.

Assuming that the majority does not want to shuffle between two separate communities, and assuming both parties involved have no objections, I'd like to propose a merger.

HardDrop.com would maintain its World Map, Videos, News, and other unique features. The forums and Wiki, however, would link to content provided on TetrisConcept.net. In return, TC.net would keep their Wiki, Records, and Forums as their main draws while advertising partnership with HD and their content. Additionally, a history/FAQ on the community at large may be written as well.

Forum member lists would naturally be combined (or, simply, a new unified forum would be made).

Any thoughts?

For reference, here's the discussion as it stands over at TC.net:

I personally like the idea if the goal of both sites is to expand the community.

I can't stand any of them, so, I object. The majority of us have no interest in TGM arcade Tetris games -- multiplayer is the future for Tetris and it is what is most fun and relevant and attracts new members to Tetris everyday, whom we are trying to introduce to Blockbox. The TC disciples can stay marooned on their boring ass forum and live in their own little world as long as they want to. But I don't want to read about their stinkin' records here that don't mean shit to me. They've already made asses out of themselves by re-creating/stealing TC and are doing exactly what caffeine asked them not to do. They're lucky if he doesn't take any further action against their dumbasses.

I think that the way things are going it'd be the best possible outcome for the Tetris community as a whole, assuming both sides are keen. Personally, I'd like to see the TC boards split up a little more to have different sections on different areas of Tetris, rather than have them mashed together on one board. Would also be niec to see clans and stuff start to appear in the community, and organised tournaments, and things like that are only going to work to their best potential if everyone is in the same place.

It also seems really stupid to have two different sets of leaderboards (though not quite as stupid as having a leaderboard for a game which already has its own built-in online ones).

I think it has the potential to work if both sets of staff are willing.

And Corrosive, stop making yourself look like a retard by talking so actively about a subject which you clearly know absolutely nothing about. You don't know what went on when TC closed, and you don't know the plans that are currently underway for the new site, so for once shut your mouth.

Let me say this, hopefully once.

This thread, and the idea detailed within, is designed towards a pacifist end.

If possible, please keep the thread as peaceful as possible, directing any personal commentary to PM.

Ok I love fighting and making fun of you TGM people about this but I'm gonna just put a fork in it and stop. I can't push aside that you're hosting this BB league Rosti and I do value what you said about supporting for future clans/tournaments and such. That is what I really want and I know you're onboard with that, so, If yall want to merge forums or whatever I don't care. I just simply do not share your passion for TGM and never will. I will try to tolerate it tho so go ahead and rant about your records and shit I don't really care. Just know whos boss when it comes to multiplayer.

Could it somehow be done like how Gamefaqs and Gamespot show your posts on both sites no matter which one you actually post to?

& This lil thread about merging or whatever is okay but if you think any of you are gonna go advertising your TC2 site on here you got another thing coming. Just so thats clear.

Corrosive thanks for supporting this.

I understand that there is clearly a split between the SRS/multiplayer/whatever players and the ARS/TGM/whatever players and I think that the only way to grow the community is to support both on one site. Keep in mind that some of the "TGM people" such as myself, Rosti, and others do play quite a bit of multiplayer Tetris and it's not as if we want to see multiplayer vanish. Rather, I'm sure everyone would love to see the community grow and flourish.

I honestly believe that everyone could get along if we had one forum which catered to both TGM and multiplayer Tetris. As a moderator on this site, I personally don't want to have to update leaderboards which just consist of copypasta from other sites or the online games such as Blockbox. Since everything is already updated in the other site, why can't we just merge? Seems like duplicate forums are somewhat useless.

Currently I really strongly doubt it. The forums software being used are different.

Corrosive, it's nice if you're supporting caffeine or whatever, but I really don't care. It's not like he hasn't already made his wishes known, it's just that pretty much everyone else took an opposing stance. There has hardly been divided opinion on whether TC was going to be resurrected or not. It was pretty much everyone aside from caffeine saying yes, and caffeine and a couple of others saying no.

And the threat of a lawsuit has no foundation whatsoever. We made the posts, we have a right to take them.
If anyone actually wants their posts removed from TC.net then I'm sure people would be happy to oblige.

Ok, it's water under the bridge now -- I don't care and I'm not gonna speak of it again and I'm not gonna hate on you. My only interests are the growth of Blockbox and building it up to the size of a community that TetriNET2 once was, and eventually to the point where we have enough people to form clans and regular competition/ladders/tournaments and such. I do think that what we got goin on here on harddrop is awesome and I will be promoting it as much as I do Blockbox.

I feel like a big deal is being made out of nothing. No one is going to quit tetris because there are 2 tetris fan-sites. Combining the sites is limiting the amount of input being put into creating more cool tetris web site features. Sure it might draw players away from one site but will make them more involved in the other thus strengthening the amount of community members and there is enough people who will goto both.

This.

Why I see Blockbox has a real good potential is because of this statement. It supports both ARS/timeattack and SRS/multiplayer players.
The same could happen here if we all cooperate, share leaderboards or whatever. I like this site and the new TC as well and I hope both will be successful, but I don't think we should split the community and force people to take sides.

This is only my word on z-flo's proposal, not Blink's. Blink would have the final word on this matter when he wakes up at 2 pm today like he always does.

First of all, I know some of the old TC community wants HD to merge with TC2, but its almost impossible since we use different board systems. So technically, we can't.
Secondly, we are a new Tetris community we need to think HD and not TC2. It would only hurt us to link to a site where most of its forum users are unregistered, wiki has many broken links and possibly has other bugs.
Lastly, its a security concern. I think that if anyone can make a copy of TC without caffeine giving them the actual database, anyone can and will in the future.

We worked really hard for harddrop.com. I hope you guys will stay with us and not be driven away because of TC2. We welcome all old TC members here and look forward to adding new features suggested to us. You, the members, will shape the new Tetris community.

Well said! I hope Blink thinks the same way since this is supposed to be different from TC
