Because of the constant influx of spam, I've disabled the posting of blogs by regular users. I did, however create a "Bloggers" user group that has access to post blogs. If you'd like to blog, send me a PM and I'll add you.

I've had issues with this in the past and know that it works far less effectively than you might expect, but do we have any decent measures to stop spam accounts signing up to begin with (human-answer questions and such)? Presumably if we just delete all the spam accounts and can then stop new ones from registering there's little problem

Like many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

That requires coding, as well as a good solution. I don't believe captchas are good solutions because I don't think the spammers are bots. They are humans, and they can read. However, they have a job to do and they won't waste their time on us if we're not an easy link.

I don't know when I'll get to it, but i learned some good stuff about the forum code today, I my be able to tie site-wide privileges together without too much work, but I don't know when I'll get to it.

Yeah, I can attest from experience on a previous forum that captchas are basically useless at stopping spam accounts from registering (we were still getting 10-15 a day). We did find that certain questions worked pretty well though - ours were tailored around pretty easy gaming-related questions, I dunno how well you could create similar ones around Tetris stuff.

And didn't realise it required coding - I was assuming it was an enable-able option in the forum registration settings (yet again lawl IPB :\).

I can live with this decision. Blogs aren't used much anyway.

What happens when your blog gets rejected? Do you get a notification telling you the reason for the rejection? Same question for new people trying to create threads.

Well this version of IPB is really old, and any captcha options or plugins that exist are awful captchas anyway. ReCaptcha is about the only one I'd consider using.

Blogs don't get rejected. You just have to be a member of the user group to post, and the only stipulation for that is that you ask nicely Smile.png
