Forums - Hard Drop - Tetris Community _ Strategy/Help _ Nullpomino Guide for Macintosh

EDIT: There now is a Mac version of NullpoMino, created by xlro. You can download it directly http://nullpomino.googlecode.com/files/NullpoMino7.5.0.dmg. Just open the .dmg, drag to your Applications folder, double-click, and go!

I decided to make this thread to help users set up NullpoMino on their Macintosh computers. As a fellow Mac user, it was a bit frustrating to not have a guide to set up NullpoMino or even an easy way to open it.

Before you play NullpoMino, you will need to have the latest Java version downloaded.

There are many places to download NullpoMino from. You can download it from the http://nullpomino.googlecode.com/, or download it directly from http://nullpomino.googlecode.com/files/NullpoMino7.5.0.dmg.

After you download it, I recommend that you place it in an easily accessible area, such as the Desktop.

Now, to be able to run NullpoMino, you will need access to Terminal. If you can't find Terminal, it's hidden under Applications > Utilities > Terminal or you can Spotlight search for it.

Once Terminal is open, type "cd" (without the quotes) followed by a space. Then, drag the NullpoMino folder into the Terminal window, and press enter. Your Terminal window should look like this:

Then, you'll type one of the following commands depending on what you want to open. play_slick seems to work best on Mac.

CODE

    To start Slick version:
chmod +x play_slick
./play_slick

        To start Swing version:
chmod +x play_swing
./play_swing

    To start SDL version:
chmod +x play_sdl
./play_sdl

    To start rule editor:
chmod +x ruleeditor
./ruleeditor

    To start Sequence Viewer:
chmod +x sequencer
./sequencer

    To start MusicListEditor:
chmod +x musiclisteditor
./musiclisteditor

    To start NetServer:
chmod +x netserver
./netserver

    To start NetAdmin:
chmod +x netadmin
./netadmin

After you type these codes, your Terminal window should look like the next screenshot. Press enter after you type the second line of command.

Once you execute one chmod +x command, you do not need to do it again. Once one is executed, it has permanent executable privileges.

Also, if a window pops up and just stays black, try double-clicking it. If that does not make it show up, close the black window and just type the second line (i.e. ./play_slick) into Terminal and try again.

Remember that you only need to do the chmod command once. Once you do that command, you've given the script permanent executable privileges, so you never need to do it again.

Wow, that works, and it's easy. Thanks!

Also, once you've given play_slick execute privileges, you don't need to manually type the command into the Terminal any more, you can just double-click it to launch NullpoMino.

This will open a new Terminal window each time you do it, though. I personally prefer to just press up and enter in my existing Terminal window.

Yeah, I just press up and enter again. It seems a lot easier than being cluttered with random Terminal windows.

Why would anyone who already has a Mac want to buy a PC?

How is it that Macs aren't considered PCs anyway? Even if you buy a "PC" it doesn't mean you're going to run Windows on it. I'd install Linux instead, because that's what I was forced to do the one time I made the mistake of buying a computer with Windows on it.

The game files are found by right-clicking the file, choosing "Show package contents", and going down the path of Contents/Resources/Java.

Are you sure you dragged the NullpoMino application from the .dmg into your applications folder and open it from there?

Alright! I got my settings configured, but now when I try to enter into netplay while in full screen mode, I get stuck in the game menu and am not able to switch to choose which serve to play on. All i can do is force quit out of the game. Any suggestions mac users? maybe this is a problem across Windows/Linux too?

The https://code.google.com/archive/p/nullpomino/downloads changed one year ago. I guess NullpoMino7.5.0.dmg works for Macs.
