QUOTE(Gentris @ Jul 3 2015, 01:34 AM) *

After how long would it take to get a sub 30 sprint? Obviously it is going to be different for everyone, so I'm just looking for a rough timeframe. I am curious so I can set a nice goal/challenge for myself

Personally, it took me 9 months to get from sub 40 to sub 30, with maybe like 2 or 3 months to get my first sub 40 (this is a guess, it was a while ago now), so I guess it probably took me about a year?

It depends a LOT on how much you play though. For some people "a year" means a year of playing 2+ hours a day average, vs some people playing maybe an hour every other day, so it'll be a SUPER rough estimate.

I just got myself a bunch of joystick parts and a piece of 1/2 inch pinewood, and have assembled my very own arcade style joystick with a bunch of buttons.

Buuuuuuuuuuuut, I got an 8 way Happ.

Using the TGM3 rules in Nullpomino, it seems I can't slam the stick left, then up-left (or right/up-right) to harddrop, I have to move the stick all the way up. If I go into the input tester and hold up-left (or right) I see both axis change.

Is this a TGM thing, or is this a Nullpomino thing?

If it's the latter, how do I fix it?

Should I just spend the $2 on a 4 way restrictor? smile.gif

The restrictor isn't adjustable, is it?

I made a joystick a couple of years ago and I remember that the restrictor was adjustable for 4 way or 8.

I'll ask it here instead of making a thread.
On my own, in single player games, I've been killing it. I finally made a sub 60 sprint, and my Marathon and Ultra games are pretty good... When I play online multiplayer, however, I choke. A lot.

My question is why? Is there a certain method to improving in multi that I just haven't got used to, or is it possible I just choke or no reason? I would love to play more multiplayer games, but I more often then not get frustrated and turn away from it for awhile. Any help would be awesome.

Generally if you get really good at multiplayer, then the single player modes come easily. However, the reverse doesn't usually work out so well. From my own experience, playing against players of similar skill works pretty good. Also survivor mode.

If you're playing on TF or TB, it's probably because of lag and/or crappy tuning. Playing similar skill is probably the best way, and you can try practicing with an AI. I use Nullpomino Poochybot at 170ms delay (Just don't use a combo start or you'll win pretty much every time).

misa mino's bot is probably the best bot to practice against - it goes the same speed as you exactly, and has standardized difficulties.

Like many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll keep practicing, maybe in different versions also because that seems to be probably the best bet (considering the differing views on multiplayer and the bots)

I just tried misamino and learned how inefficient I was (10-0 loss >.<). Imo, it's probably the best tool for training efficiency, but probably not good for speed because it follows your speed, which means if you choke, you'll get infinite time to fix your mistake. If there is a misamino bot with set speeds, can someone link me to it? I'd still practice with poochybot to fix choking.

I think that's a good thing rather than a bad thing.

Misakamm sometimes sets up a misamino bot on TOP, and it plays at 1pps, or your pace if higher. That should be sufficient, if you're trying to play nicely and just want to practice making placements under pressure.

You can set the bot's speed in misamino.ini . With the following settings, the bot will play at roughly 1.3 pieces per second:

[Rule] turnbase=0
[AI] delay=30
[AI] move=6

Umm.. In Marathon or Survival or any other fast-paced Tetris mode, I seem to have a bad habit of rapidly tapping the rotate button either from panicking to try and rotate enough to move the piece across the board or just to give myself a bit more time.

..That's a bad example, (in fact, the structure on the right can never exist!) but yeah, that's kinda close to what happens to me. This might seem kinda obvious, but should I try breaking this habit?

When you want to buy time, try moving left once and then right once back and forth until you get your bearings. Doing so might prevent some of problems you're having.

Should you try not to do it? I guess it's kind of a crutch. The goal is to play more deliberately and quickly so that ideally you won't need to do it. I wouldn't so much say to try to break the habit as much as I would say focus on preparing for the next piece as well as playing good Tetris.

I do not believe you.

This is not related to your question but I thought I'd point it out anyways so other readers will not think of this as an impossible structure.
