Conspiracy theorists say there wasn't any SNES tourney and this photo was faked, on the basis that such a noob would have had no chance. #rank 24

Hey Kitaru if you are reading this, I have a hypothetical question: Would you trade your victory in the SNES event for let's say a 3rd (or 2nd or 4th) place in the main event? Reply quickly I have to know!

@vipjun: I can recall the matches I was in, but not certain on the others. It was single elimination without tiebreakers to play off for 3rd/4th etc.. In the round of 16, I played against a younger fellow by the name of Yusef. In the round of 8, I played against Ben Mullen. In the round of 4, I played against Chad Muse. In the finals, I played against Mike Winzinek.

@Integration: I don't want to mull over it too much -- it is what it is. That said, yes, I'd likely be happier if I had made a stronger showing in NES. I don't like saying so, but it'd be a bit disingenuous to imply otherwise.

So Mike became 2nd yet another time. Was there a close match (3-2)?

Hey you are one of only 3 people who won a trophy and prize money. I would be pleased.

The matches with Ben and Chad were closer. The match with Mike was a bit more decisive, but he did put up a fight each round.

There was no prize money for SNES, but I am pleased with the trophy and handheld NES.

I've read through the rules for 2018 and there are a few changes for the NES competition("round zero" 1on1s on Saturday to determine the last 8 spots in the top 32, starting level must be 15 or 18 from top 16 onwards). But the most interesting change involves SNES Tetris.

In the past few years, the SNES tourney was declared as an "amateur" competion. That means participants for SNES weren't allowed to compete in the other Tetris competitions (e.g. NES), thus the starting field was nameless and there wasn't any footage of the competition. This year, there isn't even a SNES tourney. This doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't one in the next year but I don't like the direction it is taking. Multiplayer is treated as an orphan at CTWC. SNES would be a good choice because it is classic, it uses the same rotation system as NES Tetris, and the versus mode is well made. Last year, Sega sponsored CTWC but still no Puyo Puyo Tetris.

I missed the SNES competition too. I really enjoyed in it years past as I'm a good casual player, but not an NES qualifier yet. I played tetris effect this year, but it was not too amateur smile.gif Still a great time, I say bring back SNES vs. Tetris.
