Any idea on how to get faster in TGM3?

I have recently become enthralled in the world of TGM, but I have run into a snag. I cannot get past the 500 level step. My lowest time to 500 is 7:20, and I am trying to improve. Any ideas?

Play texmaster and set the speed to a higher number and lock it there (i believe hold left arrow and then game start).

Then play for a long time without dying. When ready, move up to next speed step.
