This is also known as a square ring.

With the Hold Queue, this piece cannot be switched to the Hold Queue.

I'm not sure I like it either. The number of times I struggle to place an O because my stack is crenelated is already far too high. With this piece, holes are inevitable (and not just the obvious one). So get drilling?

I'd be more interested in a "diamond" block. Basically the BWH but without its end points. It'd be a non-connected piece, but at least one with 4 subminos, and can fit fairly well in a reasonable stack.

imo, the only heptomino with a hole (where one of the four corners is missing) will be much more playable because it fits flat-S, flat-Z surface and also 3-platform. also allowing other octominoes with a hole is more fun, since they have more rotations, they possibly fit more types of surface.
