Hey Hard Drop,

Thought it would be nice to finally introduce myself.

Tetris:
Started playing tetris on NES long time ago.  Played the original one.  Best I've done on that was level 23 and about 600,000.  Played the Tengen one as well, you know on one of those 50 games in 1 jobs.  Good times.

Stopped for a long time and only discovered tetris again about 3 years ago when my buddy showed me tetris party on wii.  Got pretty good at that too.  Most memorable game online game was against someone in which we battled for 8 and a half minutes.  For those who know, it gets to about 20Gs after 2 or 2.5 minutes.  I've beaten 2 X level 15 computers and 3 X level 14 computers at once.  Fun game but the line clear delay is OUTTA CONTROL.  Bought Tetris Party Deluxe and found it to suck pretty bad.  Then stopped playing tetis altogther.  Play some nullpomino too, which is also fun.  Only wish I had a better connection and didn't have a laptop for tetris.

Only recently, I found an online tetris community through TF which eventually lead me here to Hard Drop.  Still slowly adjusting to playing on a keyboard and finding a good setup.  Learning to play faster tetris is kinda like learning a new language.

I"m impressed by all the good players out there.

Other stuff:
Gotta few hobbies.  Biggest one is volleyball.  Play in a competitive mens league through the year and played chinese 9-man volleyball for about decade now (though deciding to take a break this year).  For those who don't know, in 9-man we play outdoors often on concrete with 9 players on the court (5 or 6 at the net, and 3 or 4 in the backcourt).  There is a huge tournament held every labour day weekend in rotating cities in Canada and the US.  From this I've been able to travel to places like Boston, NYC, Washington, LA, SF, etc.

Like to stay active, play sports, exercise and love reading about the science of sports.  However, my passion would have to be cosmology.  If you ever looked in the sky and the stars and said wow, or why am I here, how did I get here, you know how I feel.  Many great books I've read include: the universe in a nutshell, a brief history of time and the elegant universe.

Hmmm, like to eat out, love good tasting foods.  Toronto offers many great choice in that regard, trust me!  Okay, too much rambling now......back to work

is he actually good?

QuoteLike many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

When it hits level 19, it's super fast, but when it hit 23, the speed jumped and it was death.  My trick was to stack the outsides as much as you can, because when it gets fast, you can't get outside anymore

Talk cosmology with me anytime, super fascinating stuff

The speed is actually constant on levels 19-28 -- if you noticed a speed up at 23, that was just the stress talking.  Level 29 is the next speed change, and it's more or less a "kill-screen." Center gapping is a good way to go if you want to shoot for some extra lines at level 29, but you can still solid stack levels 19-28 if that's more comfortable.

Maybe you are right, I just remember hitting that level and dying almost immediately.  Could be psychological.  Gotta admit though, Harry Hong is my hero.
