I am just wondering, is playing the mania modes on "current rule" valid in any way or do you have to use the classic rules.

I just got Gm on Speed Mania (mode 1) with "current rule" and I am wondering if it is any good at all?

Asking this since it feelt way to easy, so I guess it is not valid at all

for this mode grading will work sensible only for classic2 rule.

For most modes that simulate very specific games (i.e. Mania modes, Retro modes, etc.), you should be using one of the recommended rules instead of your currently selected one.

some mode like speed mania are designed to be used with a particular rule. speed mania in particular should be played with CLASSIC2.

here's a list of suggested rules for some modes: http://harddrop.com/wiki/NullpoMino

Too bad

Anyways, I find these mania modes really funny and revarding since I feel i have to force my brain to think faster (or really learn better pre planing) so Im going for mania 3 now.
Was .72 away from getting past the lvl500 time limit

Which game do you guys recomend which is valid with "normal" settings yet still insanely difficult - as in only pros can finish it? (i mean even mania 3 is within reach of being ok for me as i didnt find the 1000+ lvls to insane anymore)
Blockbox?

What do you mean "normal?" If you're playing one of the Mania modes, -- be it Grade Mania, Speed Mania, or what have you -- you should be playing with Classic rules.

What do you mean "only pros can finish it?" If merely being able to reach the end is a sufficient definition, then the Speed Mania modes should be fine. However, one must be quite skilled to earn the best grades and set fast completion times in the Grade Mania modes.

This is where I got pretty lost, as it doesn't seem to fit the description of either Grade Mania 3 or Speed Mania 2. GM3 ends at level 999 and has a fading or invisible credit roll section. In SM2, the 1000 onward is the last stretch of levels; although 1000-1199 may be manageable, 1200-1300 should be pretty brutal regardless of which rules you are using.

Blockbox is also a TGM clone. You won't really find anything offered there that is not also available in Nullpomino.

Normal as in the settings that I use whem playing multiplayer, dont want to spend time on learning classic rules when I wont be playing them anywhere else.

Yeah thats pretty much what i meant, They are fine - but what i mean is if there is any mode where, If i beat/Gm it I can boast about it. I mean If you get Gm on mania with classic then thats really respectable but mania 1 is quite easy with "normal rules" once you go past the time limit on lvl500

yeah, a typo I meant speed mania 2. What I really want is a mode that I can have a mode that really is beyond my reach, so I can have something too look forward to and when/if I beat it I know that it is rewarding. Like making Gm with any classic rule. If u beat it ur the 8th player outside asia or something - That i would want that but without the need to learn a new ruleset.
But i duno if it is exists

Edit: what i meant by that i didnt find 1000+ lvls too insane anymore is that if I start at 1000 i have made it to 1160 several times and that I feel that my biggest problem is the fact that I mix the pieces up when they are black so I think i can make it even furthere when I get used to them.

Complete Extreme mode on normal rules...
I can only get to lvl 14, but I make steady progress if I practice.

That's kind of what I'm saying. If you're not learning Classic rules, you're not playing the mode right and it's not going to be remotely difficult. Amidst the mollycoddling of Standard's excessively lenient wall kick tables and lockdown reset rules, you're missing out on most everything that made those modes interesting.

It doesn't. Use Classic.

there are many challenging modes you can play with SRS:
extreme with standard or standard-hard rule
speed mania 2 with standard-hard rule
grade mania 3 with standard-hard rule

In my experience, most of the "challenge" in SRS modes comes from the fact that I can't always tell where my pieces are going to end up when I rotate them, which is not the case with ARS.
