ok i know i didn't read all the posts [cause they're long n i'm lazy] but those vids are only on the front page till someone else posts up another video aren't they? just wait for them to pass over it's not that big a deal..and if a so-called 'noob' comes along n sees a sub60 miracle on the front page let them be amazed. it'll still give them inspiration whether or not it's amazing to you. you once had to overcome these achievements as well. n for some people that sub60 achievement is a breakthrough to lower, better times. let them celebrate the way they want to

myndzi i'm pretty sure quoting someone and changing they're quote without it being obvious is unethical.

As the main troll of this forum, I find it highly unlikely that members can distinguish between a post containing solely an image and another post containing completely fabricated content!

there's truth in both sides. a near sub-20 should not be so easily swept away, but at the same time this site shouldn't discriminate amateurs and discourage community engagement (am speaking on behalf of amateurs!).

perhaps a compromise can be found in the video page layout. the video page would have a generic homepage with a newsfeed of all recent videos, but also sub-categories as well with appropriate labels depending on the type/skill of video you wish to see. anyone uploading a video would have to choose a particular category and anyone who wants to watch a video could easily filter through all the uploads by clicking on a specific category and see precisely the ones with the content and skill they were searching for.

this is just a spontaneous suggestion and idk what kinda programming efforts this would take but bleh my 2cents.

No where did i say we should discourage community engagement.

I made the assumed correlation between "discriminating amateurs" and "discouraging community engagement". The keyword is "community", since engagement is not meant only for the top pier elite. If we discriminate against noobs and discourage them from contributing, then we're losing the potential COMMUNITY engagement we could've had.

That aside, why do you disagree with my statement that "This site shouldn't discriminate amateurs"? Implying that it is permissible for such discrimination? Being an amateur myself, I'm quite curious lol

There's also the video category [a href=\\\"http://harddrop.com/videos/]"featured"[/url] which should summarize past highlights.

I don't get what's wrong with the 3 videos pushing back MicroBlizz' world record. You won't find many non-spectator-mode Tetris Friends videos here. And they weren't done by bad players either.

OKAY guys i give up, we should let everyone upload their respective videos because that encourages top-tier play!

The thread is tldr so here is my view:

Xael has a point. Only one point but a pretty important point.
Kind of like the period or full stop point. It establishes points.

Its nice to see a variety of videos whether they be from the elite propros or from someone who feels as if they've just reached another personal milestone. That's all fine.

I think the problem lies when a person achieve what they think is a milestone and then achieve a further milestone of the same thing almost immediately after. Sure, you've subbed 60 (congratulations! go post your video~), oh.. 2 minutes later... you've achieved sub 55.. (post another video?). If you can achieve milestones so quickly it's not really a milestone is it? (This is just an example :S ;; )... Or maybe when they just upload a sequence of the same things... or similar things...

I'm bad at explanations...
But its kind of like... Avoiding video spam?

One solution would be to have one or two recent-but-highly-rated videos on the left, while the rest be any video. That however might take more coding/work than is fair to ask for.

i think a system where we could upvote (or even mods just making certain ones "sticky" for a while) certain videos would be cool. the 40L WR should stay near the top for a while, but i dont think it would be worth the cost of being unfriendly to new folks.

A vote system would be a good idea for this though for sure.
