Tetris / Re: Unnamed "new, cross-platform Tetris game"?

So this was likely Tetris Forever? I don't think they'll be making another game any time soon.

Nice work on programming the mode.

Have you ever thought of streaming? I think a lot of people would be interested in watching, myself included!

That is the best write up of the game I have ever seen. Excellent to find it after all these years.

Hey David, I absolutely love Hexion, and play it all the time! I was wondering if you ever thought of reviving Hextris for a more modern platform like the Switch?

For fun I've experimented with making my own version with JavaScript, though I never got to a playable state, I was just messing with graphics and stuff.

Tetris / Tetris 99 (Nintendo Switch)

Thanks for the great post Okey_Dokey!

I quite like the game. I personally thought the easy garbage and gravity increase were nice changes to the older formulas. As you said, Mihara may have been inspired by other games, and he is known to love Tetris DS.

I don't think I'll be playing it much, using these types of controls hurts my hands. I'll have to get myself a hitbox if I want to play more.

There are versions of ShmupmameTGM with the correct framerate for TGM 2, such as this one:
https://github.com/AltimorTASDK/shmupmametgm
Awesome, I would try that one for sure.

Afaik shmup mame does not run TAP at the correct speed, it is more accurate to use a current version of mame. Shiromino and texmaster are prefered over Nullpomino, as they have less lag.

Tetris / the earlier years of Tetris
December 05, 2018, 02:34:11 AM
Any idea where this bizarre paragraph from the tetris wikia comes from?

http://tetris.wikia.com/wiki/Tetris_(Commodore_64)

"This was the first version of Tetris produced by Mirrorsoft for the commercial market and was converted from a CBM PET basic program (this is the acutal one written by the Hungarian programmers usually mentioned which contained no sound, no graphics beyond character set gfx and no "next" box) into machine code by a British schoolboy working out of his bedroom. He was paid the princely sum of £50 for several months of effort. As there were no other versions in existence to compare it to, that is why some of the gameplay is different."

General / TGM1/2: Potentially 10,000 vs 100 GMs in Japan?
December 04, 2018, 11:22:55 AM
Tgm2 might not be 100x harder but it absolutely much more difficult. The reason there migt be many less GMs is the availability and popularity of the game by the time tgm2 came out in japan.

Many thigs on the wiki are unsourced, or incorrect. Sometimes the source is from irc or the forums and was quickly added. Theres also multiple wikis and arent well synced. Its a global problem sadly.

The estimates are just that, estimates. They arent only based on game locations but also online leaderboards. Its known that not every player submits scores, but it is a startig point for differences between tgm and tap.

The great thing about the community though is we are always trying to improve. Find new sources, interview new people, reasearch archived websites, etc. New things are beign found all the time, its great.

Tetris / Tetris Effect (PS4)

I got to play the demo on my buddy's account during lunch. (I don't have a PS4.) My biggest problem is not being able to change the controls. I usually use "up" as rotate clockwise, and having up be hard drop really throws a wrench in my stacking. I also wish the rotates were Circle and X instead of X and Square because that's how my thumb rests on the controller.
Welcome to console gaming.

Tetris / HD Tetris Clone for PC?
October 27, 2018, 03:43:06 PM
It would be "trivial" to make jstris an app. Basically just wrap it with electron, hook up a few api's and package it. The main thing is why? There's not really any reason to do so. They work fine as web apps. You can even fullscreen the webpage if you want by pressing F11 on windows I believe.
