My Tetris Checklist 2012
Posted On 12/04/2011 02:35:25

I hope I'm not so busy next year so that I can check atleast some of these off.  Learning these should help me become a more complete player.

1.  Learn All-spins

2.  Learn 180 spins

3.  Learn ST stacking

4.  Learn 4-wide comboing

5.  Become familiar with ARS rotation

6.  Improve my invisible mode skills

7.  Continue improving my timing

8.  Learn perfect clear starts

My problem is I find it hard to stay motivated.  Sometimes when I start trying to learn something and I get frustrated my brain chimes in with a "it's just a game, do something else".  An attitude like that is holding me back from reaching my highest potential .  Damn you brain.

It's Crazy
Posted On 05/16/2011 04:16:34

It's crazy how time flies.  Next month on June 26th, HD will be 2 years old.  It's weird because even though the site doesn't feel like it's been up that long, some of the members of this community I feel like I've known for my whole life. One of those people, jujube, has gone missing.  I'm worried about him but what can I do, I don't know where he lives or how to get into contact with him.  He literally just disappeared about 2 months ago with no word to anyone, and he's a great friend + person so a lot of people miss him.  I hope he's okay and just got sick of the internet or something.

I know I'm not the only person to feel like the competitive Tetris scene is getting nowhere, and have lost a lot of interest for the game.  I used to play daily, now it's more like once a week.  Even so, I still check this site to see what people are up to.  The only game that's still fun for me is Tetris Friends surprisingly.  It's probably the people on there, and the social environment.  I think a majority of users are just just waiting around for the next big official game or tournament.  I think even players who dislike TTC's slow progress are hoping for something to happen to jumpstart the scene.  Within the community, we'll see how this Summer's NullpoMino tournament goes.  Thanks to donations from members of the community, we'll have some prizes.

I've been spending too much of my free time playing a videogame called "League of Legends". If you don't know what it is, you should check it out:  http://www.leagueoflegends.com.  It's a completely free game, they make money by selling things like custom character skins.  My friend Will got me into it, and it's so addicting.  I play with about 7 good friends, and just today out of nowhere my old friend Euni asked me to play with her.  Apparently she's been playing games like this for years, so she's pretty pro.  We used to hang but she moved back to Vegas, hopefully I'll see her next month for Electric Daisy Carnival.  Anyways, my favorite champions to use are Ashe, Shen, and Warwick.

I feel like writing more because random thoughts are popping into my head right now, but nobody wants to read it and it's 4:00 AM.  Maybe next time, time to sleep, goodnight HD.

Geek Mode!
Posted On 03/19/2011 01:31:44

First blog in awhile.  I just bought a new PC!  Well, the parts for it anyways, I'm going to put it together when they arrive next week.  I spent about $700 on it, but I bet it would outperform prebuilt computers double its price when I'm done with it.  My current PC is 4 years old and still runs most games really well, but I want to prepare for Battlefield 3:

The new PC will have these:

Processor:  Intel i5 2500K @ 3.3GHZ.  I chose this processor because it overclocks really well (4.5 on stock cooling for most people!), and is good value in terms of price/performance.

Videocard: MSI Radeon 6950 2GB.  This videocard is expensive but really great value because it can BIOS flash into a Radeon 6970, which is worth about +$70 more.  Basically it's a free upgrade.

I've been saving up money lately for a trip to Vietnam in the Summer.  My cousins and relatives over there miss me, and I can't wait to see them again.  In my opinion, there's nothing more important in life than family.  Friends come a close second.  Did you know in Vietnam, a bowl of Pho is only $1?  A glass of nuoc mia (sugarcane juice) over there is 10 cents!  Over here in SoCal Pho is like $6.50 and sugarcane juice is like $2.

As for life, work is getting the best of me, but school is alright.  If I go to Vietnam my position is not guaranteed when I come back, but I think I need a break anyways.  Pharmacy technician has got to be one of the most boring jobs in the world, this is what you do all day:  Print out prescriptions, count pills, pour and mix liquids, handle phonecalls and the drive thru.  Repeat until you quit.

I've been going out a lot more now, because Tetris isn't doing it for me anymore.  The only fun I've been having lately is on Cultris2 because it's so different.  I'm known to jump around from game to game whenever I get bored though, so I wonder how long C2 can keep my interest and what I'll be jumping to next.  If killahbee loses to Jtadore next round of HDOV, I have to play him.  He's a scary ass player, I've only 1v1'd him once before and narrowly edged him out 10-9.

Okay, that's it for now.  2-part video of the day: the video is about a year old, but I just found out about them. They're a dance crew called Kinjaz, from UC Irvine near me.  Some of the members are from ABDC's Kaba Modern.  I like how they have Naruto references, which is my favorite anime alongside Bleach.

Thanks for reading

Show me your friends
Posted On 02/21/2011 08:13:57

There's a good quote that goes....

Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are

I'm lucky enough to be blessed with positive, good hearted, and supportive friends.   True friendship is hard to find, so I am very fortunate to have several of them as influences in my life. I'm proud to say that 5 of my closest friends I've known for over 10 years, and one since I was about 7 or 8 years old.  I will always have their back, like I know they have mine.

Chinese New Year!
Posted On 02/03/2011 00:03:00

Happy Chinese New Year HD!  When I was around 5 my parents took me to a Tet festival nearby Asian Garden Mall.  I heard a bunch of loud drumming and wandered off by myself to watch my very first dragon dance when out of nowhere one of those dancing masked performers came up about an inch away from my face and stared at me for like 10 seconds while shaking his head around.  Here's an example of one of those masked guys:

I got scared and cried.  I think I got traumatized.  Some people are scared of spiders, or snakes, or burglars. To this day I live in fear of the masked Tet dancers.

Tell me that's not scary!  Even that kid in the back wants to get away from there.  Ok that's the whole story, I'm going to spend some time with family now.  Have a good one!

1/08/11

The grand finals of the Tetris Tournament Online is over.  hebo_MAI took me out , but I gave it my all.  He was in the upper bracket meaning he had to lose twice to be eliminated while I had to lose once.  I edged him out the first set 15-13 and he took the 2nd one 15-13.  All in all there were about 1000 spectators watching off the official Tetris stream and Japan's nicovideo, and I'm happy we were able to give them an excxiting match to watch

If you missed it:

Despite what some say, I think the commentators did a fantastic job.  It was entertaining to me even though it didn't have all the technical terms like Kaidan setups or things like that.  I really liked their "out  of control!!" remarks around the 1 hour 18 mark,  it made me laugh .

Happy New Year!
Posted On 01/02/2011 00:22:37

It's 2011, time flies so fast!  I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Years celebration .   I had a crazy night with good friends but now I feel exhausted.  I think it fixed my sleepcycle though lol.

Looks like I'll be playing the winner of Trance/clincher next round in TTO, and if I manage to get past that round I'll have to face hebo_MAI .  I'll give it my best but I think I'm the underdog this time around.

Me, killahbee, jujube and Jes are going to form a team for that "HD Team" thread that myndzi made.  We might recruit more players too, but haven't yet decided on the team name.

I'm about to pick up a PS3 since several of my friends have one and want me to play with them, but also because Tetris is coming out for it.  From what I've heard on the forums and member bluesphere, the game isn't too great.  I'll probably try it anyways, might as well since I'll have the console.  As an Xbox360 owner, I really do love how PS3 doesn't charge you for online multiplayer.

The PS3 games I plan on picking up:

1.  Tetris - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We0uHNtqKn0

2.  Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8cqKTD9azo

3.  NBA2K11 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkXmcl1zXcQ

4.  Medal of Honor - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2PKQU6H9R4

5.  Gran Turismo 5 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LazwQWsGWx8

6.  Little Big Planet 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI4gT9FcPWY

7.  Final Fantasy XIV - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0sg5uxTKGg

Any others games you guys recommend?  Is Twisted Metal out yet?

I've been playing some TDS in preparation for PS3 Tetris.  I've had some 1v1 sessions with hebo, SAMAF, kan-kerisu, and HAHAHA.  I think I'm pretty even with HAHAHA/kan-kerisu but samaf&hebo keep destroying me like 10-3 ratio.  It just shows how much I still need to learn, and that as the speeds slow down my chances of winning against these strategic monsters decreases.  SAMAF has invited me to a TDS tournament that the Japanese players hold each weekend, so I hope to learn and improve by competing with them.  It's very frustrating, I hope I can figure out my weaknesses.

Well, that's about it.  I'm happy that the Hard Drop community is going strong through to the new year, and I hope we continue to make many new friends in the coming year  .

1 month
Posted On 12/29/2010 03:52:09

Today is December 29th.

1 month from now is January 29th.

I'm not worried about it being a month, I'm worried that at the end there will be no change.
