Hello!

So recently I've grown some interest in tetris. Do you have any tips on how to improve?

My stats are:

Battle2P record: 38 lines.
Sprint in 1:40~2:00.

So yeah, I'm that bad. I've read the wiki here but I have no clue what to do now. Practice T-Spin setups? 2 wide combos?

do you want to improve in terms of ffa, vs or single player?

the most basic tip would be to keep practicing - but practice well. So like when stacking in 40 lines make sure you stack flat etc etc

i think speed is overrated nowadays, as long as you know when to send and block garbage and downstack you're good

Whoa, quick answer!

What do you mean by stack flat?
I always stack like this:

But that's how far I can go by spamming games. I came here because I have stupid questions I can't figure out on my own.

Like how to clear garbage (btw how do I counter garbage?)
How to practice T spins and combo setups.
How to stop increasing the stack when I'm almost getting KO'd and the I pieces don't show up.

Ah, I downloaded this NullpoMino, what DAS-&-cia speed do you guys use?

First off, this is a good page to bookmark. Only the first few guides are relevant now, but as you get better you'll need these.

Probably the best thing right now is to decide on a good key configuration, then focus on playing efficiently. Make sure you rotate both ways, and learn how to DAS to a wall then tap back (depending on your DAS setting, this is usually quicker than tapping three times). Don't worry about speed, it comes with practice.

stacking flat is terrible advice / wording.

Here is a good place to go to read about stacking : http://www.ryanheise.com/tetris/tetris_stacking.html

You need both bumpy and flat surfaces.

It is kind of obvious but the best advice is to always have a surface for whatever piece you get.

-------

Set min/max DAS always equal to each other. DAS on nullpo refers to how long it takes for a piece to automatically move to the left or right when you hold down a movement key. Lower = less time. I recommend 7-10 for a beginner. The lower the better, as long as its comfortable.

DAS delay- When the DAS kicks after you hold left or right it will start moving at a certain rate. DAS delay adjusts that rate. Lower numbers are faster. You can play very fast using 0 DAS delay so that is recommended.

Hi Retro,

I suggest setting the following:

Min DAS: 7
Max DAS: 7
Das Delay: 0 (if you hold down a direction the piece will go straight to the wall)

These are the settings I normally use on my PC and they are the settings I started my girlfriend playing tetris on. If you get used to them it's good =D

Try and not be put off by the amount of information on Harddrop Smile.png Best to focus on small areas at a time and ask specific questions....

Getting faster doesn't always make you better at VS!
Learning Tspins won't improve your sprint time.
etc, etc.

- Stacking flat means try and keep your horizontal playing field fairly flat

- You can practice combo setups in Nullpomino... try: Start-> More->Race Modes -> Combo race. Make sure to set width to 2,3 or 4 depending what combo you are practising

- You can practice tspin setups in Practice mode, where you can play forever... OR i would suggest reading some of the WIKI here and playing some Dig race (but try and do tspins as you clear lines)

- Don't stack for more than one tetris at a time until you are very confident. As soon as you have 4 lines clear them. If you have any garbage at all get rid of it before you stack for your next tetris.

Holy cow! Thanks so much for usefull the tips!

Is it ok if I keep asking questions on this topic?

The point of DAS is only to "Fast foward" to the wall of the matrix (like on Magnanimous's fumen example?). Or it can also be used to move pieces instead of tapping (like on Ravendarksky's?)

Always, in tetris, the "bag" will always have 1 of every piece? Its not possible to the 12th piece be an I and the 13th also be an 'I'?

both. Best to tap when you have max 2 taps to do, but das to wall if more than that. If 1 space away from the wall, das to wall and tap back. works best with 0 autorepeat (ar)

Don't attempt to learn complicated t-spins setups or whatever until you are faster and learn the basics

Learn t-spin setups whenever you want. Chopin learnt spins before he could even tetris, and he is pro now.
