TTO2 Tourney Format Discussion Options

TTO 2 IS going to happen early or mid 2012, so I thought we should get a head start and figure out the tournament format.

I am planning on hosting it on Tetris Battle Arena mode when it's out and polished enough to have a tournament on. This game has the most players of any Tetris game right now.

Last year we capped it at 256 players, should we increase it to 512 or higher?

Do you guys like last year's one match per week format with players choosing 2 of 3 days they can play on? Should we change it to make it faster pace?

What do you think about seeding by TTO1 results, and then 40L thereafter?

How should we handle and improve on commentary?

Any other comments or things you'd like to see?

I'll take into consideration everyone's opinion before finalizing a ruleset.

Of course I won't be hosting the tournament on this game unless they agreed to have full unlocks of energy and customization for the duration of the tournament. With the amount of players expected to participate, it would be a huge headache to run into energy problems during matches. You guys already know how I feel about fairness, so the max customization is a must.

There also needs to be a way to find and play your opponent of course, which is what I'm expecting.

I'm not planning to do it on the 2P bomb mode either, but rather the real garbage mode once it's out and has had enough testing. This is why I'm thinking sometime mid 2012, but if it's not ready by then we're not doing it on this game.

I just wanted to get a huge head start and figure out format for now.

I'm in favor of bombs mode for a tournament. The garbage may not be perfect, but it's a nice change from previous tournaments. All the tournaments feel the same to me; they're just a rehash of the same TOJ-esque type game on a different platform. Bombs change the game mechanics, and the matches will be a lot less unpredictable, since it's not clearly established who is better than who which will create a more exciting tournament.
