HardDrop now has a chat channel on IRC! (Internet Relay Chat)

You can find it at #harddrop on irc.quakenet.org (Quakenet).

The easiest way to join the fun is by using the simple Webchat:
http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=harddrop

There are also alternatives, which you might prefer if you want to chat regularly:
  • Many Instant Messengers like Miranda have IRC plugins, which also give you easy access to our channel.
  • There are also many standalone programs (clients) for chatting on IRC, like mIRC or XChat.
A very good free client for Windows is XChat: http://www.silverex.org/download/xchat-2.8.6-2.exe
    The chat looks like this:

Update: We also have nice colorful channel stats now, which are generated automatically.

I also implemented a relay of the shoutbox to IRC.
Join #harddrop.sb to follow all the messages as in a normal chat.
The relay works in both directions, this means it is also possible to send messages to the shoutbox from IRC.

Hope to see you soon on #harddrop!

yeah so I've heard ;)

I'd say keep the shoutbox for the purpose its name actually suggests: making a short shout out on the main page
for any real conversation / discussion just use the chat, that's what it's there for
+ the shoutbox is too small for it anyway, sometimes when a couple ppl are on and talking it's literally impossible to follow, if you don't have your eyes on it all the time. you skip away for a minute or two and the moment you come back the complete scrollback is with text you can't even associate (and yes, clicking on the log every time is annoying)

btw, we already got a rather steady 10+ members on now, let's see if we can expand that even further :)

I also think that problems like nick spoofing or similar stuff we discussed are not really going to be an issue for us at all - or at least it wouldn't be anything that could not be handled, if it did become one.

Not if we stay on Quakenet - there's no way to ghost people stealing your nick on Quakenet, which is the main reason I'd rather use Rizon or some other network.

the ghosting part is true, but if we use auth this point is pretty much moot, we just give our authed ppl auto voice, that's all we need if somebody really has concerns that someone else might be spoofing a nick in our channel (for whatever strange reason) - I mean who cares about an extra _ or whatever, if the colliding nick happens to be somewhere else in the network we don't care about anyway
but as I said, I'm definitely not married to QNet, I'm on couple other networks anyway - we could move if there's a good reason
