I just had a discussion with SirJeivus about Harddrop's community and how it feels kind of exclusive to the veteran members to an outsider. Blink suggested I post this to the forums. I quote myself:

[1/2/12 1:11:20 AM] Joanne Chang: I think what puts newcomers off is that there are so many private groups and inside jokes that get tossed around
[1/2/12 1:11:40 AM] Joanne Chang: I thought I missed out on a lot of history too and it took a while for me to actually want to participate in forums and such
[1/2/12 1:12:57 AM] Joanne Chang: There's no solid game that harddrop promotes, but if there was one, new players can go there to spectate and join [play with] members and slowly become familiar with us
[1/2/12 1:13:10 AM] Joanne Chang: unfortunately we're all over the place

Although I very much enjoy the groups and jokes, it took me a long time and the right attitude to actually submerge myself in this community.

Any thoughts?

Why we don't all support NM: Its complexity and to some extent legal issues.
Why we don't all support TB: It sucks. Sticking Out Tongue.png
Why we don't all support BB: It's dead.
Why we don't all support CII: It's too different.

Pretty sure most of us support NM.

Like many setups here, it is useful if your opponent doesn't move and you get 4 Ts in a row.

Yes, the vast majority of people on this forum are exceptionally unhelpful towards others and have a rude and condescending attitude.

Sure, focusing on one game would make it easier. But. First of all, not all players are hardcore players, and casual players lose the interest very quickly. Secondly, pro players very often ignore the newcomers making it some sort of clique. A good example of that was bb back in the day, newer players were completely ignored by all the pros.

I personally believe that the problem is the fact that most people don't fully understand tetris and the beauty of it. Like... For instance, i have seen/read so many reviews of latest tetris games... and sadly the reviewers were noobs as well. They were talking about the game modes, and how the gameboy tetris was the best... However not a single one of them have ever mentioned twists or combos... And in the last review of tetris axis (on gamespot afair) the guy didn't even use harddrop. he would softdrop all the pieces...

Our mission should be to make people aware of all the features of the modern tetris (and surprisingly even TTC fails at this part). Also, more people should focus on helping the newcomers. Big up for what XaeL, Paradox and others are doing...).

over and out
