NES Tetris players have begun a new initiative, Online tournaments played of multiperson video-chat. The rules were as follows for the first one (they will change): we all played 5 games total with the highest cumulative score winning (the lowest game was a "burn" game, not counted in the total)

results

1) Ben Mullen
2) Matt Buco
3)Robin Mihara
4) Jesse Presnall
5) Adam Cornelius

"games of note"(in normal play after the officialish thing):

Robin Mihara: 724k
Matt buco 600 somethingk starting on 19!

the full results can be found on this spreadsheet,

http://bit.ly/w04525

more will be coming as well, nearly weekly, and with more participants (hopefully), or at least different ones. If you want to participate you can... maybe. Space is limited to 10 (i think) in this particular form of mutiperson video chatroom so space must be left for "contenders" wanna be one?... get a big score on youtube.

update... round 2:

not many people showing this week, oh well, but Matt Buco did and as the guy with the highest proven non maxout score he has a big old target on his back as far as im concerned:

results: mixed. we added seperate level 18, 19, and potentially 9 competitions (depending on who comes) with side games to follow.

18 round (rules: play 6 games total best 3): I won soundly averaging 662k pts game in my top 3 to bucos 501202. John Byram (my former roomate and and ok player might sum up how the average joe would do with some practice... he averaged 123535)

19 round (rules 25 minutes highest score wins): Matt Buco won soundly with a 514985 to my paltry 229600. my internet quit at minute 16 and i conceded, my 19 play was pitiful johns was ... worse but he'll improve

here again is the spreadsheet with the results... if you think your good... join us and find out

Another NES Tetris Tournament this week. Results:

Level 18 competition: we play 6 games total the top 3 of them, highest wins.
1) Ben Mullen average 657,624
2) Eli Markstrom average 584,020
3) Matt Buco average 576,617

Level 19 competition: we play 25 minutes worth and total our best 3 games.
1) Eli Markstom average 323,866
2) Matt Buco average 210,408
3) Ben Mullen average 154,280

side note: I'm going to inject a small amout of personal pride. We have had 4 competitions, with very strong competitiors and i remain undefeated on level 18, and have the highest score in these competitions at 841... but others should be proud too... both eli and matt have gone above 600k from 19, i have sucked on 19

another side note: my exroomate john byram scored a personal best at 523k last night, not too shabby, if i dont write it somewhere he'll forget it

Hi Ben, Can we have some more details on how this is all put together? Namely:

- Do I need to be playing on a NES? Can I emulate one?, Can I use nullpomino with an exact NES ruleset?
- What are you using for videochat?
- What sort of scores do you think I'd want to be averaging before you would consider allowing me to enter?

Nullpomino is ok for practice since it does support certain mechanics unique to NES, but probably not sufficient for real competitive play at this time.
