Here is a guide to Tetris Online Japan for new players who don't understand Japanese.
Signing Up:1. Go to the Create Account page located here:

3. After clicking NEXT, you will be taken to a page where you can review and confirm your information:
4. If all information was correct and you've pressed sign up, you should see this:
5. After clicking on the activation link in your e-mail, you should see this, which means you're done creating an account!

3. After logging in, press the orange "Game Start" button to launch the game/downloader:
4. It will ask you to select a download location. When the game is done downloading, it will automatically load up and you will be taken to this screen:
Here is a translation of the Options Screen which you can reach by pressing the wrench button near the top right.
Press the 2nd tab on the options screen above to change your keys:
5. After Pressing OK to save your keys, you will be at the main screen again where you can play Singleplayer modes, Multiplayer modes, Train against the CPU, or enter the SHOP.

Upon entering Singleplayer mode, you will be presented with the option to play from 1 of 4 modes (Marathon, Challenge, Time Attack, or Dig). Only premium subscribers will be able to play Singleplayer Mode.

Training against the computer is a fast way to earn TP points, but requires Premium account access to play. The CPU has 24 Levels, and you have to win three times on the current level to unlock the next one. On each unlock of a new level you will gain some TP points, and you will also gain TP points for the first time that you defeat the final level 24 CPU 3 times.

Entering the multiplayer mode will present you with the following screen:
Note: Expert Room consists of 20G gameplay.Only premium subscribers will be able to create password-protected rooms in multiplayer mode.
You're now ready for your first game!You can spend your TP points by going to the upgrade screen below. This is done by entering the SHOP button, and then pressing the first white button in the SHOP screen:
Upgrade costs are as follows:
Level 1 ---> 200 TP points
Level 2 ---> 500 TP points
Level 3 ---> 1000 TP points
Level 4 ---> 3000 TP points
Level 5 ---> 5000 TP points
Warning: If you level down in a category, you will NOT get a refund for your TP points.
As mentioned earlier, TP points are awarded 5 times faster if a player has a premium account, which cost a monthly subscription fee. However, there are 2-day free trial premium subscriptions available for players who successfully invite a friend to sign up to TOJ. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------How to receive 2-day premium access for free (By inviting members to sign up)1. Login to your account on TOJ.

http://www.tetrisonline.jp)2. Once logged in, find and click the invitation button on top of the TOJ-page:
3. Below the images, fill in the following information:
(the mail address part on my screen is red because it says the address is wrong, ignore that)
In the last field you choose a gift for you and your friend to receive once your friend completes registration.
This gift will only last 15 uses.
When finished, click the orange button and proceed to confirmation.
4. On the confirmation screen, click the button on the right to send your invitation mail:
That's all you have to do to invite someone.
When going to the Invitation page again, you should see a list of invitations you've sent at the bottom.
Note that Invitations expire after 20 days. And approved Invitations also disappear from the list.

Next it's time for the invited person to complete their registration. (It may take a few minutes or even an hour until the Invitation mail arrives.)
5. Open the mail from TOJ, click on the first Link
and most importantly: Copy the 16 characters Coupon-Code, it looks like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. You will need this code during the final step.
6. Proceed to registration, register regularly. Fill in everything and sign up.
7. Receive the registration mail from TOJ and click on the first link.
8. Enter your UserID, password and the Coupon Code from Step 5.
That's it! Click on the right green button to go to the top page of TOJ. (the left button sends you to the beginner's guide)
With completion of the Final Step, the two of you get premium membership until 23:59, three days after completion. (Japanese Standard Time). Upon their first logon, the invited player will automatically friend request the person who invited them.

Benefits of Premium membership include: Gaining TP points 5x faster, access to Training and Singleplayer modes (including "Dig Mode") at anytime, ability to create password-protected rooms in multiplayer mode, 1000 TP points credited for each month of subscription, embedding videos inside of blogs, and more.
Those who wish to pay for a premium subscription can do so at the monthly fee of 315 yen plus tax, although you get the first month free. Payment continues until you cancel it through the TOJ website but you must be a subscriber for atleast 2 months before you can cancel your subscription.

Finally, all members can use 1000 TP points to have access to premium contents for 24 hours, starting from the minute they apply for it:
1. First on the top page, click "Shop" in the top bar, second from right.
2. Next in the bar below, click the fourth option from the left.
3. Then, pick the 1000 TP course and finally press the orange button.
That's all. The Premium membership starts right after you click this, and lasts 24 Hours.

Understanding the statistics graph:
The stats are divided into 2 game types: Maps and without Maps
Speed is measured by LPM (lines per minute)
Adding power is how much garbage you send including those used for garbage cancelling (APM = attacks per minute)
Tetris, T-Spin, and Back-to-Back record the average number of each that were performed per game.
REN shows the average maximum combo length in a game, for example: A new player who performs a 7 Ren and 5 Ren in their very first game will only have their longest one count, in this case 7. If in the next game their longest combo chain is 5, the REN statistic will show the average of the 2 games, which is 6.

Click on the blue button near the top right corner to open friends list/message window
2. At the bottom of the friends list window, enter your friends name in the text box (cases are sensitive) and click on the button to the right of that to open that person's profile
3. Click on the bottom left button of the profile to send a friend request. Click OK in the next popup.
Your friend request has been sent and there should be an hourglass besides that person's name. After they have accepted your request, the hourglass will change into a grey/orange dot. Grey for offline and orange for online.
How to accept/reject friend requests:When you are sent a friends request, the senders nickname will have an exclamation mark besides it.
Right click the name and select the 2nd option to accept, or the 3rd option to reject.
How to delete a friend:
Right click the person you wish to remove and select the 4th option.

still waiting on a Linux version of the game because i got tired of fighting with Wine...and i don't even know if it would run smoothly in Wine if it worked.
