I'm curious as to if on blockbox you can do vs. with a set limit for max speed to say even the playing field?  I'd like to see how good people are when not dependent on their speed.  So just sort of curious about it...I'd think it would make for more strategy and again a more even playing with field lots of people.  It would come down to more of an outwit/play your opponent vs. just being super fast and able to destroy someone because of it not that there's anything wrong with that lol.

If it is possible I'd like to see a tournament with it implemented sometime.

ahahhaa thats a crazy idea, i wanna try it.  how would it be implemented though?  like if you're going too fast no new pieces will spawn for awhile?

oh man
the horrors of tnet 1.13

If you want to cripple everyone with a speed limit, try playing Tetris Party.  I swear they made it slow on purpose so that the stronger players wouldn't be able to walk all over everyone else so badly.

I don't know exactly Blink, was hoping some of you gurus might know better as far as custom settings on blockbox.  Is there a way to say limit it to 100TPM or 80TPM or something even slower...granted games would take longer and be more boring to most, but I think it be better overall play.

I guess where this idea spawns is Chess for me...Speed Chess while it's fun and still good times doesn't allow for the same analytical thinking as 2hr/40 does.   I'd really like to see a game with a max speed and say 12-20 preview lol...I'd like to have some real crazy thinking involved although I'm sure most enjoy their speed edge.

I has no Wii  and the intentions aren't to cripple, but to involve deeper thought...sorta like my Chess comparison.  Strong players should still be able to outplay the weaker players, which to me I'd rather be outclassed moves-wise than beaten by purely speed.

Maybe you want to set an entry delay? It shifts some of the focus from raw speed to efficiency and finesse. The player that can be the most efficient when active time rolls around will start to eke out a lead in pieces placed.

That be interesting is it something we could currently do within the parameters of Blockbox?

Kitaru

Yep. Entry delay is one of the many parameters you can specify in a Custom multiplayer game on Blockbox. Somewhere from 25~30 frames -- around half a second -- of entry delay should do.

i doubt anyone would be interested thogh

Or you could set it to 60 frames, which would simulate the pace of the original Tetrinet.

If you just want to even the playing field, why not play against someone close to your own rating? There's a lot of newer players at spelpunt.nl, after all (peak times are earlier in the day). Rating is way more accurate when it comes to winningness than TPM.

mzhang

this seems interesting and i would like to see the idea developed in some way

I get the feeling that people who can consistently maintain higher speeds are able to do so because they're more accurate and confident in their placements, so even if you slow them down they'll still be better players.  I could be wrong, though.

mzhang

of course they will be better players, but the gameplay will have a different dimension when slowed down
