So...I played a few games of TDS against jujube a little hour ago.
I used to play TDS regularly and had become ''quite good'' at it. ''Good'' in sense of being able to give a lot of resistance against top players (and every now and then I was be able to beat a top player with some luck). It were the good old days with many active TDS players online at IRC where we kept in touch to play against each other frequently and learned a lot from each other.
As everybody knows the number of active top players has dropped (-people have a life and TDS isn't the only game ofcourse
). Lately (read: for more than a year) I've been playing TDS only ''casually''.
I haven't played again a GREAT player anymore for a long while...so it happens that I had played against jujube today. Finally I could see again how I would match up against such a skilled player.
It started like an EPICLY match; we had many close games and at some point the score was 11-11. Our speeds seems to be a bit similiar. But suddenly jujube was overpowering me. He crushed me (easily?) tacticily. All my attacks didn't seem to hurt him anymore at all; he just took them, countered some, had some good downstacking and had great timing with his own attacks. Most games were very long games where he came out as the winner. So at a score of 11-20, I decided to quit, because I didn't feel like being able to make a little comeback at all.
I believe those last 9 games had shown me my lack of experience/practice. I was too aggressive by mainly only attacking my opponent. Jujube had simply outsmarted me these games.
This match of today has really inspired me to start practicing ''seriously'' again. When I casually play on worldwide, I can usually outspeed a 'bad' player, and simply lose against the higher ranked players.
My goal at practicing now is learning to play more tacticily. This is where I need to improve. Maybe I am not a person to play more tacticily; I don't care whether I'll get better or worse results at matches after this ''training'', but I do need to (try to) change my style, since I know and feel I'm on my limit now.
