Customizing Lockjaw
Posted On 08/09/2009 00:06:14 by jujube

working on a custom version of Lockjaw (by Damian Yerrick aka tepples) http://pineight.com/

what you can't see:

- the bars under the field display scales of 1-40 lines, 1-40 seconds, and 1-240 TPM. the TPM measures your TPM for the last few pieces, just like in the unmodified Lockjaw.

- designed for instant gravity play.

- pieces lock when you release any game key, or you can use soft or hard drop if you don't need to move the piece.

- getting as low as 1.5 keys per tetromino while testing.

- controls:

instant far left, instant far right (with full gravity applied after each column shifted)

  tap left, tap right

rotate left, rotate right, rotate 180

  hold

  soft or hard drop

for a total of 9 game keys. i use my thumb on space bar for hard drop (only need it a couple times a game). it's best to use a keyboard testing program to make sure you can use all game keys simultaneously, because of limitations of some keyboards. you only really need to hold down 1-4 keys at a time though. your soft or hard drop key doesn't need to work simultaneously with other keys.

- rotate the O piece left or right to shift it 1 column. rotate and tap to make it quickly shift 2 columns.

- instant left and right are only applied in a single frame. this is necessary for lock on release, in cases where you need to go right then tap back left for example, because if you release the instant right key the piece will lock.

- the kicks are a little more aggressive when you're pressing a directional key. for example if you're pressing instant left or tap left, then rotate, the piece will kick more to the left (usually). though in some cases you might need to go right, rotate, tap right for example. you can minimize the need to do this through learning the kicks and optimizing your stacking strategy. there are specialized things you can do with the rotation keys that i can go into more detail on in a PM.

PM me for the source code (can compile on most systems) or i can give you the 32-bit Linux executable. you can find out how to compile at Damian's website (linked above), and he has many versions of original source code as well as compiled Windows executables for download.
